Any tips for horse betting rookie?

I am going to the track tonight but I don't have much of a clue when it comes to betting on horses.

Any tips?

Wager on a small scale. Buy the past performances at the track. If you see any horses with some back class that are decent odds you may want to take a shot. I also do not like wagering on horses that are running too frequently. GL.
