    Thoughts on John Wayne?
Watching the Alamo right now on WGBX. The guy was a great actor and rarely ever gets mentioned. I think he smoked 4 packs a day, big time smoker.

I loved that version of The Alamo as a kid, saw it when it first came out. Was very excited to see it partly because of the Duke being in it and partly because it was filmed in Bracketville not far from my abuelito's ranch. They used a lot of extras from nearby towns like Uvalde, and I was thinking that maybe I'd see someone in it that I recognized. Love the fact that when it was first released there was a shot of a school bus in the background in one of the scenes, since edited out obviously. Never had a desire to see the remake with Billy Bob Dumbass.

Wayne's best westerns were the ones early on like The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and The Seekers. A few more of my personal favorites were Hatari, Hellfighters and Donovan's Reef. Plus his final movie, The Shootist, was one helluva way to go out for the old man.

He did have some good movies (goes without saying really). I'm just surprised that he made his last movie when he knew his cancer was at a rather elevated level like it was. Although, he did play the part of "Mr.Books" in The Shootist.

John Wayne was the biggest racist actor of his generation.

John Wayne is one of the most spectacular actors of all time, regardless of genre or typecasting. I dare anyone to watch Rio Bravo and True Grit then tell me otherwise.
