    Tuesday Thumbs
The purpose of this thread is to give tribute or scorn to things in the world of sports, betting or whatever. THUMBS UP or THUMBS DOWN .

For the second week in a row, I begin with a :thumbs_up to SportsBook Review. With all the crap surrounding BETonSPORTS right now, it sure feels good to be associated with the one forum that isn't flying their banner.

:thumbs_up to the movie The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada which I rented on DVD this week. I don't know if it would be for everyone, but I enjoyed it.

:thumbs_up to Kelly Kulick, a female, who bowled her way to a spot on the men's Pro Bowler's Association tour. Key word: bowled. There was no special exemption or sideshow thing going on; she just earned it.

Oh and to the New York Islanders for their new coach and GM hirings. They picked two guys who have been out of the game for awhile - Neil Smith (away from the NHL since leaving the Rangers in 2000) and Ted Nolan (who was Coach of the Year in 1997 with the Sabres and was promptly fired and hasn't been able to find an NHL gig since).

The prolonged absences were not strictly voluntary. It is not public knowledge exactly why Smith, a Stanley Cup winning GM, and Nolan, who has done nothing but win at every level, have had such a hard time getting back to The Show.

But I like both guys so

To Mexico for their 3-1 win over Iran and to 'Trinibago' for their nil-nil draw against Sweden.

To the FSN broadcast team for the Texas Rangers. No, not for the excellent broadcasting styles of Josh Lewin and Tom Grieve. But they did leak some info last night in the White Sox-Rangers game when they noted that the umpire crew working that series right now in Texas will move on to work the Royals-Astros series this weekend in Houston. So look for Chuck Meriwether, Mike Muchlinski, Phil Cuzzi and Brian Onora this weekend in the Bayou City.

To Bud Selig and MLB in general for dicking around with the decision on whether or not the league that wins this year's All-Star Game will have home field advantage for the World Series. It's a silly idea for such an outcome to ride on a game that is a frickin' exhibition contest. To date, the owhers and the players have yet to decide if Bud's little experiment will continue this season.

I heard a disgusting rumor that the NHL was not disbanded but instead was actually holding contests this year.

Doesn't Hopkins have a younger brother in boxing? I thought I seen something on PTI where they were comparing the two fights.

I guess in Demetrius' last fight he simply laid out his opponent. They were calling it one of the greatest knockouts in years. Thanks for looking that up looker.

Demetrius is Nard's nephew, not brother. He landed a solid overhand right, but ESPN was overhyping the KO, imo. I've seen much worse KOs.

It was a very beautiful punch and an oppenent could not be out colder than that guy instantly was. I mean Hopkins arm followed through at least 2 feet beyond the guy's head and before his fist reached full extension the guy was cold as ice.
