show me 1 post where i said i was rich? i have 3 kids $200 can be used on other things besides here. thats the difference between me and you i have responsibilities. you have to go to college and ask mom and dad for money. there isnt anything wrong with that, you are 24 and im 38 so our priorities are VERY different.

To buy the same unit im renting at, it would be 460,000. So renting is a necessary evil because there could easily be another downturn in the real estate market. In the lowest point in the recession the same units at this place were going for 320. That is a huge, huge risk to jump in right now.

As for scholarships, I had them at Illinois. Not northwestern.

so who said you had to buy that unit? see thats you younger generations. i want this one so thats what i have to have. (i dont know the area) why not buy a 4 family house for say 500k rent out the other 3 apartments. the rent they pay should easily cover 1/2 the mortgage probably 2/3 of it and then you cover the rest of it(im just throwing #'s out dont have time to do the real math) and when or if you graduate you have equity in the house you can move out in a year or 2 after and keep that house as a $$$$ generating property.

It is substantial the way they place in the market place as well. 15% or Illinois grads end up with a top 250 law firm. 52% of Northwestern grads.

The average starting pay is almost twice as high for Northwestern grads as well.

Getting a well paying job. I'll waste like 70 grand in rent over the next 3 years but it is better than the alternative I think. house values might drop but imo its the most sound investment that will gain value over time. its an investment property people always need a place to live and it would be close to a college campus you shouldnt have any issues renting them out. look at it this way you are giving someone 70000 towards their mortgage with no gain it it for you or putting that money into an investment that will def. make you a profit down the road.

Before the collapse, these places were selling for 500K. Then they went as low as 320K and are climbing their way back. There is definitely not a guarantee there will be profit.
