    Double on A-K Blackjack
    No shitt

We are taking our free nights at Harrahs Rincon. This morning 'round 5:30 this guy to my left had a 500.00 bet...

    He had an A/K vs dealer's 6

He said "I want to double" Dealer called the pit boss over... Boss said "double on your blackjack?"

Dude got a TEN Dealer had 6/2 caught a JACK

    I was betting 30.00 , won with K/9

He might have been counting. Have only seen things like that in tournaments - never at a live table.

not a count high enough that makes that play +EV

A counter never pulls that move....brings attention to his play.

I'm a dealer myself and trust me I've seen that a few times. People with low IQ... If you get a BJ you get paid 3/2 and if you double down and happen to win you'll win 4/2 but it's not guaranteed because you can push. Of course the ones that actually hit a ten and wins thinks they are a genius.

A guy did that to my table at the Las Vegas Hilton about ten years ago. The great part was, he was in the "anchor seat" and was saving everyone at the table with these bizarre moves. He would do the opposite of everything you're suppose to do to win, thinking you were fooling the house into paying him. It was painful to watch.

                        exactly. It's always -EV.

Only time it makes sense is in these live blackjack tournaments and you are forced to double to advance.

this is kind of irrelevant to the original story but i was playing bj the other day at the treasure chest in louisiana and some lady stayed on a soft fourteen (A/3). Then she had 2 aces and wouldnt split them. both those hands she lost.

then 2 days ago i was playing at the silver slipper in mississippi and some young kid like 21 or so gets dealt 2/2 and FUKKING doubles against dealers 3. i mean i thought ive seen it all but this was crazy. i could mayyyybeee see just hitting it but doubling on 4?? he got like an 8 or something. LOL dealer ended up busting tho and he won, freakin luckbox idiot

obviously doubling is insane, but hitting 2/2 vs. 3 is actually the mathematically correct move for a game with 3+ decks. Splitting would be marginally worse.

                                  25/1000 table double-deck, dealer hits soft 17, re-split, double-down after split & late surrender
