American players are a huge minority in the NHL. Most stars are either European or French-Canadian.

If you could go back to every Stanley Cup winner from last year to since, say 1970, and find a common denominator among all of them, I would be much much more impressed.

The Wings won with the Russian 5, Nicky Lidtrom, in the late 90's and guys like Hasek, Zetteberg, and Datsyukin the 2000's. The Devils also won the cup with one of the best lines assebled in Sykora, Elias, and Arnott. Penguins won with a French Canadien goalie and a Euro Conn Smyth winner. By the way Parise is American.
