I would settle for another 30 years of new deal policy, where the GDP grew at a greater rate than any other 3 decade period in our history, there were no financial meltdowns, and Americans made living wages from a hard day's work and bought things made proudly by other Americans.

You don't know much about history if you make this statement. Politicians have been deemed corrupt for many, many years in this country and for good reason. You might want to look at the muckraking movement of the early 20th century if you'd like to educate yourself.
To this day, both sides remain corruptable and anyone with continuously contemptuous treatment of one side makes themselves look like an absolute fool.
If anything, the progressive movement (or liberalism) has largely been a grass-roots movement of the American populace throughout the years rather than the evil, socialist stigma that your favorite propaganda machine has spun you to believe. Without it, there would still be slavery, no safety rights for workers, no women's suffrage, etc., etc., etc. And to this day, it aims to gain equal rights for some of its citizens (like the GLTB community).Comment -

When I was in college, I was always surrounded by staunch, bull-headed neo-cons, and they loved hearing my opinion, because I didn't agree with the majority of their shit. As a result, I was labeled liberal by every single one of them. Never called myself that at any moment.
One day, a very educated scholar came into a class to talk with the professor, we were stuck in some group, trying to figure out something to do with the ICC. Once again, everyone in the damn class was calling my ideas liberal.
Point being, the scholar said something to the effect of "A true liberal, never says he is liberal" - I believe that whole-heatedly.
The morons you see who vote democrat do it for 1 of 2 reasons, that is how they were raised, or because democrats are more "minority friendly."
