Detroit Radio Show Calls ESPN Asks "Do You Know Who Nick Lidstrom Is?"
The radio host just wanted to know why ESPN wasn't doing a special on the career of Nick Lidstrom... so they called ESPN Headquarters.

    The call went something like...

Radio Host: I'm just calling to ask why no one has been assigned to do a story on the career of Nick Lidstrom?

    ESPN: Who's Nick Lidstrom?

Radio Host: You don't know who Nick Lidstrom is?

    ESPN: No I don't.

Radio Host: Do you know who Bobby Orr is?

    ESPN: Actually I don't.

    Radio Host: (Laughing)

In a way ESPN has kept his retirement quiet. I don't get it either to be honest?

It was 101.1 FM Detroit. Drew & Mike Show. This is the interview clip with Nick Lidstrom. NOT THE CLIP OF ESPN CALL. Hoping they post that on their page soon.

Not surprised. He's not that popular.

Plus most of Detroit is black anyway like they care about hockey.

Im a huge Hockey Fan i live 50 min from Des Moines Iowa so im in the fields.Hockey is just a rouge sport that will never be mainstream.I put on the local sports station here in Iowa with everything going on all the playoffs and baseball they spend there time talking about the drake relays high school baseball and i put it back on a hour later and were talking about Iowa State coach getting a contract extenision.Best advice for a hockey fan forget espn you do not have to go there for sports anymore. If you love hockey listen to NHL Network guys on tv and Xm radio.Mad dog Russo has talked Hockey during playoffs forget ESPN they stink anyway. They only know football.Nba Nhl Mlb all have there own networks now thats the way to go.

also lets not forget hockey is a touchy subject with espn considering they dont have (and didnt want) the broadcast rights since the 2004 lockout

He's probably not even top 20 of known hockey names. People would know Jeremy Roenick before him. He's boring.

Thought the radio show was out of Detroit. Anyway, no one cares about hockey, espn don't care about hockey, black people don't care about hockey, therefore no one knows who Nicklas Lidstrom is.

Its like asking people in Europe about Tom Brady, no one gives a crap about him.

ESPN cowtells to the big market sports like baseball football and basketball.

It is a shame that people don't give hockey the respect it deserves.

The crowd at the red hot chili peppers concert at the Joe begs to differ; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRQPWfl5fHs, he also got a street named after him. He might not be the icon Stevie Y was, but surely one of the top Wings of all time. People might know a few of the US/CA all time greats better, but I doubt you can line up 20 of them...

Dude was ******* awesome for a long time and completely pasted the 1995 Flyers and the legion of doom and those guys barely blinked doing it.

Genius and the game will really miss him.

I wish him and all of his loved ones nothing but good fortune in the future.

TSN is awesome. Love their top 10s. The Score has gone down hill since they gave up the Cabbie guy. But yeah, ESPN sucks!

                                This is an utter shame.

But i am not surprised since ESPN caters to big market sports like baseball, basketball, and football.

ESPN would rather talk about peoples failures or antics
