Yea, it's Bullington that you're thinking of.
Even though he was a #4 and chosen only due to money slot.....Tony Sanchez should be in there too. The Pirates don't even give us updates on him anymore.

yeah I remember him, he's in the Pirates system!!!!!!
I think John Van BenSchoten is another great Pirates first rounder, guy was the ncaa leader in HR's his senior year.....
so the Pirates draft him in the first round, and make him a pitcher!!!
he ends up finally working his way up to mlb level and setting some records for worst ERA ever!
2-9 and 9.20 career era!!!!

The thing about the guy i mentioned, Bush, is that he was #1 OVERALL and hasn't come close to sniffing the majors

sounds crazy....but he didnt really play at a big school....so the power hitting tools probably didnt project as much as his pitching potential did.......remember darren dreifort....he could rake when he was at wichita st.....and he showed flashes of it in the big leagues...

just starting to take a look back at some recent first rounds
this ones gotta hurt pirates fans....06 4th overall brad lincoln
7th overall clayton kershaw...10th overall lincecum....im guessing right now youd settle for 21 overall ian kennedy...just tons of pitching misses for the pirates over the last 10 years
05 draft j upton, r zimmerman, r braun, r romero, tulowitzki, mccutchen, j bruce all in the top 12...with ellsbury at 23...and some other major leaguers like john mayberry jr, cliff pennington, garza, volstad, pelfrey, colby rasmus, c maybin

Only people in San Diego would know who Matt Bush is.
He was always on the news / in the paper when he was a high schooler.
Just turned out to be a really shitty player once he got into the padres system.

ya i hear you about lincoln....but to see what was missed on with kershaw.....got to be a bit of a disappointment
not sure how far some of your memories stretch back....but i remember this kid cause he was drafted a pick or two after my boy rocco baldelli......but matt harrington.....kid was like the best high school pitcher in the country back in 2000.....his agent scared teams off at the very top and he fell a few spots to like 7 or 8 i think....and his agent had some big squabble with the rockies and he never signed.....so he went back into the draft and fell into the 2nd round and then got scott boras and he was tryna get the kid first round money and didnt sign...so he started pitching for independent league teams and his shit was gone by then and the pads told him straight up they had no interest in him anymore....sad...he wasnt even two years removed from being a national player of the year and he was getting lit up in independent leagues
shits crazy but i guess he had a nice insurance policy so he didnt totally lose out
Matt Harrington turned down a $4.9 million contract and now works for $11.50 an hour. The former flamethrower is coping with his flameout a lot better than his father is.

ya....things arent looking so hot for him right now....but he was drafted out of a high school...still very young
tim beckham looks like he could be ripe for one of these threads down the line
amazes me how much quicker the college kids are hitting the majors these days as opposed to the old approach.....
and not to rub it in pirates fans faces...but....pedro alvarez

Yeah hadn't heard if that kid. Boras is s cancer...... Pirates fans are feeling better about Pedro, he still might put it together. Right now third base men are lacking on power in the NL, can't remember it ever being this poor for hitting 3b-men

typical Padres draft pick..this kid went to high school 5 minutes from where I grew up..was a great pitcher/shortstop and hitter at Mission Bay High...kid couldn't keep his head on straight and made countless bad decisions.
