It's also because Serena is like that.

Never like Federer or Nadal or Djokovic. She's a flake and sometimes she doesn't care or doesn't come to play. Federer always comes to play.

anyone who watched the match clearly saw she cared just didn' t play well. I will never question Serena's heart after that match she gave it her all and just couldnt quite escape. I did have Serena on a parlay also, so I did lose some money.

I didnt watch. Only watched Nadal today. I was just talking about in general, with serena as compared to the top men's players.

Razzano only closed +809? So odds-wise, the biggest upset I can remember was when Ivanovic lost to a qualifier in her first match after being ranked #1 (which lasted for about a week).

Actually 2003 French Open, right before he won his first major.

Don't forget that 6 time and defending champion Federer came within a couple of points of losing in straight sets to a clay court journeyman in R1 of Wimbledon in 2010. It just so happened the guy choked when he realised he was so close to victory, and having failed to close it out, collapsed like a cheap tent.

Would have been interesting to see the damage that would have been done had Federer lost that day.

I still don't understand why people pay ridiculous juice for plays like this. Considering how many games are on the board, there's much more value on players who aren't massive faves.

I agree, I mean it has to happen sometime. It"s not like Razzano has never played tennis and went out there and beat Serena.

if serena really wanted to, she could've won 6-0, 6-0. there is that large of a talent gap between the two. she wasn't motivated at all and had a horrific choke job up 5-1 in the second set breaker.

55 to 1 favorites win about 55 times out of every 56

so once in a while that 1 out of 56 happens

and for those thinking big upsets like this happen in men's college hoops, it's quite the opposite and i don't think a favorite of -4000 or more has lost in about 5 years

usc football lost as a 41 point favorite to stanford in 2007, that's about the last time i can remember an upset of this magnitude

Women's tennis would be more prone to upsets than men's even if the consistency of the players were the same because of the three set format.

C'mon mathy, you of all people should dig that.
