Stock market is in freefall, how can the dollar be shooting straight up in value? This shit makes no sense to me, economy collapsing yet the dollar has gone from 1.6 dollars to euro exchange to 1.35 dollars to euro in the last month.

Two factors:
1. The US is still looked at as the most stable/safe country. Even as the US is spending all the money for bailouts, etc....US treasuries are soaring.
2. People are starting to think that all the credit problems may not be a US only problem. If that's the case, we are ahead of the other countries in terms of addressing the issue. First in, first out of the problems.....

The dollar is still the world's reserve currency. In a worldwide financial crisis it will do well.
It had also been declining for quite some time versus most currencies. Nothing lasts forever.
I'm gettin 2,300 COP for $1 today vs 1,650 a few months ago.

Suits me - I keep about $10k in a US account to avoid currency conversion fees all the time, and they're worth about 15% more in GBP than 3 months back :-)

And oil is selling for a dollar a barrel, who the fuk can figure this crap out, why even invest when Sept 1st oil is worth 160 and Oct 1 it's worth $1.60, investors are absolute gamblers, no wonder every investment firm is beggin the govt for a bailout, just a bunch of degens that get paid 200 mil a year to gamble with their clients money. The govt should bailout everyone who's ever lost a bet, after all we weren't trying to lose we were just making bad investments

You might just be the most insular person I've ever come across. Have you noticed that other countries' markets haven't been doing well either?
In addition to that, you have a safe-haven effect. The Yen has been doing very well lately, although that is partly due to an unwinding of carry trade strategies.
The dollar is still the world's reserve currency. In a worldwide financial crisis it will do well.
It had also been declining for quite some time versus most currencies. Nothing lasts forever.

Are you getting paid in US dollars in Colombia which you take to the local bank to convert to COP? Or do you have dollars buried in the basement which you got at a lower rate in the past

Didn't the Vikings name them the way they did on purpose to discourage the people from going to the good one. Then all the Vikings chilled out on Iceland and all the idiots went to Greenland and froze their asses off.....

Correct, they did this to discourage Americans from coming to their island, worked perfectly.
We do the same thing in Canada, let everyone know what a terrible place it is and they leave us alone.

I take pesos out of the ATM from my US bank accounts at the daily exchange rate.

How do you fund the US bank accounts? With money earned in Colombia now? Or with money earned and saved in the US in the past?
If the latter then it makes sense.

Both, though I don't technically make any money in Colombia.
Sportsbooks tend not to offer accounts in colombian pesos.

So if I get this right durito you are living in Colombia but when you request a payout from your sportbooks it is wired to your US bank account even though you are not a US resident and since the transactions are in US dollars you get an additional bonus when the dollar is high in relations to COP's because you withdraw from a Colombian ATM which charges your US Bank according to the exchange rate on the day you request money? How do you pay taxes for your winnings in the US since you are Colombia resident that uses a US bank?

I pay my taxes by writing the IRS a check like I presume most people do.
When you take money out of an ATM anywhere in the world you get the days exchange rate.

The fact that he doesn't live in the US and all his deposit transcations in his US Bank are wired money from foreign banks because he uses non-US sports books since online sports gambling is illegal in the US. Secondly his only withdrawals from the US Bank are from an ATM in Colombia. If this is not a RED flag for IRS then I don't know what a red flag is.

You are clueless Pavy. It is not illegal for an American citizen to gamble online and there is not even a gray area if you are an American expat.
