Why to watch: Boise State keeps rising in the rankings and making a case as a contender for a second BCS bowl berth in the last three years. Now No. 15 in the AP poll, the Broncos disposed of Louisiana Tech last Thursday behind the help of the offense, defense, and special teams. The program is likely to be favored in each of its final eight games, meaning a spot in the Top 10 is within reach if it avoids slipping up. After starting strong, Southern Miss has hit a wall with consecutive losses to Marshall and UTEP that have put the Conference USA East out of reach. While the offense is progressing in Larry Fedora’s first season, the defense, a trademark in Hattiesburg, has been the culprit in the program’s slide.
Why Boise State might win: Southern Miss is going through some serious growing pains on defense that the Broncos are sure to expose. The Golden Eagles are No. 97 nationally against the run and have allowed eight touchdown passes in recent games with Arkansas State, Marshall, and UTEP. Boise State will turn loose QB Kellen Moore, a Freshman All-America candidate, who’ll distribute the ball to RB Ian Johnson and top receivers Jeremy Childs and Titus Young. Up front, the Broncos will dominate the interior of the Southern Miss offensive line.
Why Southern Miss might win: No longer able to lean on LB Gerald McRath and the defense, the Eagles will continue perfecting a balanced offense that’s No. 17 in the country at 457 yards a game. It has some way to go, but the attack is beginning to look like the one Fedora birthed at Oklahoma State, able to run it with Damion Fletcher or get it to WR DeAndre Brown and TE Shawn Nelson through the air. Boise State has been terrific on defense, except when it faced the diverse attack of Oregon. Southern Miss has that kind of potential on offense.
Who to watch: Known more for their offense, the Broncos have held three of four opponents to single-digits this season. One of the reasons Boise State has been so good this season is the play of CB Kyle Wilson, who leads the WAC in interceptions and has the shutdown skills of a future pro. When he’s matched up with Brown, it’ll be one of the toughest challenges the freshman receiver will face all season.
What will happen: Although the Southern Miss offense is making exciting strides, until the defense can make timely stops, the Eagles won’t beat the better teams on their schedule. Boise State will keep them off balance with the running of Johnson and the big-play passing of Moore to cruise to a 5-0 start.

souther miss is shiity. i like the play. not sure if i will play them heavy but i will put them in a few teasers for sure. dont think this team is anywhere near as good as the 06 broncos though. oregon has been the only test and there will be a handful of teams beat the ducks this year.
