NBA players are not very smart...
This really shouldn't come as a shock to you, however.

There is a part in the game I watch very closely, and I'm guessing 85-90% of players just don't understand clock management. It's really unfathomable.

When a team receives possession of the ball with roughly 35-40 seconds left in a quarter, and instead of getting off a quick shot, guaranteeing themselves two out of the final three possessions, they wait until the clock gets under 24 seconds, allowing the other team the last shot. It's mind-boggling how this happens all the time.

There is only one player who understands this, and hurries to get the shot off to insure another possession. And that's Chris Paul.

Happens all the time, people post about it all the time.

Players are not good with numbers, so they can't figure out when to shoot quickly.

however, they can play the game at an elite level and you can not. all we want is our tickets to cover. how undisciplined a team can be should be factored into your handicapping. most sports bettors are not very smart. thats why they lose money.

Lebron James just watched as the clock trickled below 24 seconds, after inbounding the ball with around 40.

I don't think this is on the coaches. You either understand basic math, or you don't.

Sometimes running a play that can yield a good shot is better than chucking up a bad shot within 5 seconds and then getting the ball back with 5-7 seconds left and having to chuck up another bad shot.

So you would rather have two mediocre 6 second possessions, than one good 24 second possession?

Clock management is blatently worse in football, especially college football.
