That's why it is so hard to get out ahead. Lack of discipline. I have set win amount goals and a fixed bankroll if I hit tables. When I hit one or the other, I'm done.

JJ , sports are more alluring because the gambler believes he can cap at a better rate than 53%

Most can but have no discipline and/or money management and bet plays just to have action.

Gn'G , I take exception to "Most can" cap >53% assuming -110 events

Point taken. I should only speak for myself and say I believe I can hit 53% by randomly picking the board but would be foolish to count on it with -110 and a cold streak that would have to occur at some point. I try to manage my bankroll and in hoops this year am up a substantial amount hitting at around 55%. Majority of profits came from my big plays cashing. The rest of the bets are washes.
Ouch. That is just piss poor money management. Hopefully a lesson was learned.
Today I flat bet 3 NBA games with Chi, LA and Boston ml. Shitty 1-2 record but kept bleeding to less than $200 with the dog winner, which is around an 1/10 of a unit for me.

To you as well. Not seeing a whole lot to play. Romero looks too good to be true at short odds. Ditto for Halladay.

I do far better betting on college football/basketball than in pro sports. Because at least in college you know you'll get 100% effort every game, when in pro sports you never know when a team will take the night off. College basketball is easily my most profitable sport because of how home underdogs perform. Hit 59% of my college hoops picks last season.
Professional sports are a lot more of a gamble IMO.
Besides, here in Fort Worth the nearest casino in Oklahoma is a rip off. They charge you a $.50 commission PER HAND on table games, which basically makes the house edge on typical table games over 10%. Shouldn't bother playing a game like that on principle alone. Better off playing slots, but who knows what the return on those machines are due to the fact there is no accountability/regulation entity for these indian casinos. Or driving an extra 3 hours to Shreveport.

One sports bets gives a hour or two of entertainment and, I would think in most cases, the house edge of almost any casino game is going to be significantly higher...

the house has better edge with table games since most drink while they play but sports bettors are more inclined to chase after their losses so i guess it all evens out.
