My favorite filly ROMANCE IS DIANE is running her final race ever, in the Cal Cup Classic on sunday. Im hoping she smokes the boys!

Romance Is Diane will become the first female horse to compete in the $250,000 California Cup Classic when she faces seven males Sunday in the main event of the annual program of stakes for Cal-breds. And she might be favored.

The 4-year-old filly, a Grade I stakes winner two years ago, is the shortest price on the morning line at 5-2 for the 1 1/8-mile race at Santa Anita.

Romance Is Diane won't have to face 2007 Classic winner Bold Chieftain, who was entered in the $175,000 John C. Mabee Mile because trainer Bill Morey Jr. thinks the 5-year-old is better on turf.

Romance Is Diane is scheduled to be retired for broodmare duty after the Classic.

"If she wasn't at the top of her game, I wouldn't have put her in this race," said trainer Mike Mitchell of Redondo Beach, who had also been considering the $150,000 Cal Cup Matron, an event Romance Is Diane won by 6 lengths last year.

"It was pretty much my decision," Mitchell said, "and was largely based on who was going in which race. She fits in the Classic and the distance won't be a problem. If she wins this race, it should really help her in the sale. For her, it's simply time. Besides, we're tired of looking at Zenyatta's hind end."

The daughter of In Excess had chased unbeaten Zenyatta in three of her past four starts after winning the Grade II Bayakoa Handicap at Hollywood Park in December.

She has twice competed in the Cal Cup, winning the Juvenile Fillies by 1 3/4 lengths in 2006.

The field for the Cal Cup Classic, with jockeys, weights and odds, in post position order: Add Heat, Alex Solis, 116, 7-2; South Coast, Joseph Talamo, 114, 12-1; Top This and That, Garrett Gomez, 114, 6-1; Mr. Chairman, Michael Baze, 115, 3-1; Romance Is Diane, Rafael Bejarano, 115, 5-2; Top Emblem, Aaron Gryder, 113, 10-1; One Chin Again, Joel Rosario, 111, 15-1, and Cheroot, Martin Pedroza, 115, 6-1.

I'll be tracking it up this weekend went with 500 last night lost all but 40 until maywoods last race when I hit the super for $1 key 3/5,6,7 paid 850 for a buck so still in the game was getting worried for a bit
