I don't know the play you are talking about, but I umpire games and it is a dead ball.

Unless the rule has been changed or I have been wrong the whole time. I am looking that one up.

The past ball that got the Pirates their 3rd run hit Jones' foot, but he swung. It clearly hit his foot, and I think the umpire referenced it hitting the foot when they played audio, but the run was allowed to score. Maybe the 1st or 3rd base ump didn't see it hit his foot so they couldn't call it.

            Rule 5.09

In the case where a batter swings and the pitch hits him anyway, the ball is dead and a strike is called.

K then score should have been 4-2 final.

Did they (the umpires) even conclude it hit his foot? I know Skip and the guys in the booth referenced hearing the sound of it hitting twice so had to be a foot or Brian's glove...but maybe the 3rd base didn't see it or call it...thats why they judged it as a passed ball. I dunno on that one either boys...one of those whacky ones.

I didn't see it, but I would have to imagine that the umpires ruled it didn't hit him... Thats a pretty common rule, I was worried I call games wrong for a bit

Umpires ruled it didn't hit him originally, convened briefly, and upheld the call.

It was a shitty push but better than a loss.
