it looks like his swing is vulnerable to a good offspeed pitcher. So many moving parts and loading up could spell trouble for the kid.

Just don't see that swing holding up against a pitcher throwing a 96 mph fastball followed by an identical looking 78 mph offspeed pitch. Too much back to front motion.

He's fast and has a great arm though, that's for sure.

I assume by "front back motion" and "loading up" you are referring to his long stride. Which should not be an issue. He does an great job at keeping his front side tucked and using his stride to load his hips and not generating his swing power from his hips and not his stride.

Also, Bryce Howard doesn't just stride forward like you were talking about, it looks like he loads up initially with a considerable backward rock, and as he strides forward his level or height even changes quite a bit. I'm not saying he can't hit it hard or doesn't have athletic ability, I just think to be successful in the bigs he's going to have to quiet these things down.

Yes I did make an error, I meant to say offspeed, which would be for example a curveball starting along the same path as the previous fastball and breaking out of the strike zone.

Harper needs to get a short swing. He is gonna strike out a lot. Get a short swing like Chase Utley and he will hit more bombs.

A lot of Gary Sheffield's unorthodox swing was bat movement prior to the hitting position which isn't very significant.
