#72I know you guys are talking thoroughbreds but my favourite is Niatross (Standardbred) from a watch standpoint. Watching him in December at old Greenwood was amazing. #2 is a horse my family owned called Prime Time Bobcat, who for a while set the world record. Amazing to watch him race.Comment -

#73Ok I'm not a horse guy by any means but when Zenyata was in the news I watched a couple races and was in awe. I ended up watching all her races. It amazed me how she would be so far back every race yet still come back to win all the time. I had my wife watch her races and bet on her for that last one which she almost die it again just to come up so close. Was awesome. I really do get a rush when I bet horses though.Comment -

I had no idea!
How lonh have you been doing this for?
As far as standardbreds, I remember betting a horse in the Little Brown Jug. His name was Ryahd (I'm sure I'm spelling that wrong) but, this was the fasted Harness horse I ever saw. Won all the heats & broke a sped record in 1993 I think.Comment -

#78Great thread didn't realize this many guys like the ponies on sbr...
Affirmed wow's me the most, but that was before my day, although I have seen most of his races....
Those 3 triple crown races that year were insane...
However my favorite horse was Victory Gallop, not really sure exactly why but just fell in love with this horse...
In the Kentucky Derby he was running dead last behind fourteen other horses at the half mile pole then made a powerful drive near the end of the homestretch to pass betting favorite Indian Charlie but ran out of track and finished second to winner, Real Quiet. In the Preakness stakes he finished second again to Real Quiet then won the longer distance Belmont by a matter of a few inches.
Horse had a sick leg kick, but just got too many second place finishes...
Also,
Made alot of $$$ on RAgs to RIches....
Furthermore,
it was hard not to pull for Zenyatta during her magical run...

#93So many racing fans here. I have so many, but that sticks out was the 1999 Belmont. That was the day when Charismatic broke down in the stretch and Chris Antley jumped off and held his leg. Who know what would have happen if he didn't break down. That was the sad part, at the same time I had a trifecta box on Charismatic, Lemon Drop Kid and Vision and Verse, so with him came in third, I had a huge payout. It was bitter sweet for me. Still remember till this day.Comment -

#95From Australia here, haven't been to many races but have to say the thrill of seeing Black Caviar in last year's BTC Cup was amazing. She was made to work (a little!) for the win by Hay List and the hush that came over the huge crowd when Hay List was leading into the short straight at Doomben was intense. Then the big mare just cruised up past and took over to cheers, but for a moment there was some doubt from the crowd. The atmosphere made it so much better.Comment -

#97The best horse race I ever saw was during the 1980's when Precisionist beat Greinton by a head.
It was a 4 horse field and the race was run over 1 1/4 miles on the dirt.
In the 1 1/4 race, the first 4 furlongs were run in 45:1 and they passed the 6 furlong marker in 1:09.3 with Precisionist and Inamorato racing head and head 15 lengths clear of the other 2 horses.
At the top of the stretch, Inamorato was almost eased and Greinton caught Precisionist and I wouldn't have bet Precisionist at 100-1 odds at that point.
After dueling through these incredible early fractions with the other horse eased Precisionist somehow refused to let Greinton by and won the race by a nose.
Greinton had the entire length of the stretch to get by Precisionist and just couldn't do it.
Definitely the greatest performance by a throughbred in the history of horse racing.
Here is a link describing the race and if I am able to find the video, I will post it as well

#98point given "the big red train"
He is the only horse in history to have won four $1,000,000 races in a row: the Preakness Stakes, the Belmont Stakes (in which he ran the fourth fastest Belmont ever, faster than both Seattle Slew and Affirmed, each of which achieved the Triple Crown), the Haskell Invitational Handicap, and the Travers Stakes.Comment -
