for those of you who do "all in" plays; I don't but this will be as high as I go and the chalk I will eat will be disgusting too (-167 5dimes, I am not waiting for it to get worse because people will be POUNDING NYR). For those of you who know anything about my my betting I am a spot bettor and you had better believe this is a big spot.

This is a team that completely outclasses their opponent, and that found some of their rhythm on the road last game. Even though Boston is the reigning champ I cannot believe they are bigger favorites than NYR tonight.

For those of you on the NYR puck line I do think it is a sexy value but I'm not touching that.

Be careful because these are whats known in the probability world as independent events. whether Boston wins doesn't influence whether rangers will win, so conditional probability does not apply.

Not saying rangers are going to lose. Just saying make your bet on rangers independent of whatever happens in boston game.

I do not disagree with what you are saying, and obviously the events are independent, but when handicapping I like to take into account certain situations and hopefully develop little edges.
I looked back to 1994 and not once have both 1 seeds lost in the first round. There have been plenty of 1 seeds who have been upset in the first round, 8 1-seeds have lost in the first round since 1994.

Since 2000 (not including 2005 because of the lockout) if you take the seed of all 8 teams who have advanced to the second round and average their seed number the average seed is 3.75. The lowest average was last year (2011) with an average second round seed of 2.75, and the highest average seed number has been 4.5 which happened in 2006 and 2010. The average seed over the course of 11 seasons is 3.75.

This year there are 4 possible outcomes left with Washington winning tonight.

NY & Florida - average seed - 4.125
NY & NJ - average seed - 4.5
Ottawa & Florida - average seed - 5
Ottawa & NJ - average seed - 5.375

Now Ottawa can definitely win, and I would never go all in on anything unless the game was fixed, but I think NY is in a good spot here. One of the reasons the line is so high.

Agree with the general concept. That is why I was slight on the Ovechkins last night. However, all of the value on the underdogs is done for rd. 1.

I make a killing every year on betting series and straight on dogs in the first rd. PHX paid me, as did Nashville. I was a bit late on the kings, but still was able to cash a bit.

The play tonight is screaming the Rangers. It's the only side play in that game that makes sense, unless you are adamant about not laying juice because you're a broke dikk fukk.

Like Washington last night, I can't believe the lines these books are giving out for Game 7's. Unreal value in the dog. I don't know shit about hockey, but it's obvious home ice makes very little difference so far. In these low-scoring, goalie-dominated matchups, how you can lay anything over like -120 in a toss-up game is beyond me.

I blindly took the Caps last night and cashed.

The way the playoffs have gone so far, a regulation play is pretty risky. But if you are willing to lay -160 or more on the Rangers, you probably should feel confident they're going to pull it off in regulation.

Nice, no juice line. I was smashing those 3 way lines earlier in the season. Got burned a few times mid-season and abandoned that, and went to my old "system".
