Hey, better than a 0-0 tie ... decided by a foul shooting ... I mean field goal kicking ... oops, I mean penalty shoot-out!

I believe the NFL tie is decided on a coin flip and a potential FG. NHL tie is also decided with a penalty shootout.

The NHL and soccer are wonderful bedfellows ... as for football, the teams settle it on the field the same way they play 4 quarters ... the entire team does not start OT sitting on the sideline watching the kicker for each team kick ...
(pavy, I'd expect you'd see the difference ... perhaps not)

80% of the time the team that wins the coin flip wins the NFL football game. This is not a fair way to decide the outcome of the game. In soccer penalty shootout (which is preceded by a 30 minute overtime where both teams have an equal chance to win the game) there is a 50% chance of winning the shootout if you take the first penalty shot.

Perhaps it would be better if the NFL had a shorter OT where both team get the ball once or twice and then, if nobody has the lead, they engage in a FG kicking contest, starting at the 30 and going 5 yards back for every made kick?
Then, it could be more soccer-like

Or play the whole 15 min of overtime which will give both teams the chance to score. If they are tied after 15 min, do the FG kicks.

Pavy, when you can't settle the game the same way you started it, it is a negative about the sport that cannot be erased.

Richie is the better all around capper and its not even close. Results prove it just check out the baseball contest or best bet thread. He finished 2nd in the baseball contest and he's 3rd in the best bet thread.
