Funny you made this thread man.
This same thought crossed my mind about a week ago.
I was just thinking to myself that only a Yankee can break DiMaggio's record and wouldn't it be sweet if it was Jeter.

very true
not diminishing it, because what Joltin Joe did was truly amazing... but back in 1941 there weren't alot of great AL pitchers that weren't Yankees
Bob Feller was about it.
and they didn't use relievers for the most part, so Joe got 4-6 good looks at the same pitcher in a game.... something that never happens these days. and no blacks and very few hispanics...
no way we ever see another 50+ hit streak. I doubt we'll see another 44+ game hit streak either.

If anyone was going to break it, I figured Ichiro would.
If he managed to get past 30 games, the media madness will make Linsanity look like WNBA coverage.

You could name your own odds with this. Jeter will not even break 40.

If Jeter platooned against lefties he would have a decent shot he had about a 93% chance to get a hit today.

Yes if Jeter only played against lefties he could do it. Then again, there are not enough lefty starters.
But he's not the only one like that. Guys good enough to hit in that many straight, even against lefties or righties only, tend to play every day.
