Democrat Party Presidential candidate Barack Hussein Obama is asking Missouri law enforcement, including Prosecutors and sheriffs, to target anyone who intentionally lies or spreads misleading information about him during the campaign.
“The Barack Obama Truth Sqad” will be headed by St. Louis Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce and Bob McCullugh, the prosecuting attorney. Their goal: to remind citizens that Barack Hussein Obama is a Christian who wants to cut taxes for those making less than $250,000 a year. They also plan to immediately respond to anyone making statements that may violate Missouri ethics laws.
“We want to keep this campaign focused on issues,” says Joyce. “We don’t want people to become distracted, and Missourians don’t want to become distracted by these devicive character attacks. So we’re here to respond to any character attacks and to set the record straight.”.
“Whether it is directly attributable to the campaign, or one of the soft money operations, if they’re not going to tell the truth then somebody’s got to step up and say, ‘wait a minute, that’s not true, this is the truth’.”.
The Obama campaign confirms that law enforcement officials from the Kansas City area and rural parts of the state are also part of the so-called “Truth Squad”. Jefferson County Sheriff Glen Boyle is also expected to participate.
Missouri Governor Matt Blunt has roundly denouced the so-called “Truth Squad” as “abusive use of Missouri Law Enforcement” and says it has “attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign”.
“What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment,” Governor Blunt wrote in a press statement. “The only conceivable purpose of [the so-called "Truth Squad"] is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election. Barack Obama needs to grow up.”
