Here's the ultimate compliment for an announcer
I was watching the Yankees/Rays game on MLB.TV but I thought the Rays announcers were so boring that I had to put on the Yankees radio broadcast (John Sterling) just to make the game bearable. That's the ultimate for an announcer imho, when they make the game more interesting on radio than it is by watching it on TV, that's amazing.

Anyone else had an experience like this or am I just crazy?

    Good post...

Radio Announcers (esp sports) are forced by nature to make the play sound more interesting. Its their job to make the listener 'see' what their saying. Much more expressive and content laden than tv imo...

I agree accept for in this case. John Sterling might be the most annoying announcer that ever lived.

        Good example.
        Also
Brewers fans commonly watch the T.V. with no
audio (terrible Bill Schroder) and listen
to the colorful Bob Uecker on the radiocast.
I listen online and watch MLB TV.

There are some announcers who are equally good on TV and radio though. Vin Scully and Jon Miller are examples of that imho.

No argument there...Scully and Miller are beyond
the pale. Doesn't get any better....
Nice to see Dick Enberg back on with the Padres also.
We are lucky to be in California.

I would rank Sterling behind only Vin Scully personally.

I think Scully is like Chick Hearn, he'll keep announcing until he dies. We're lucky to be alive while he's announcing, he's that good.

Bob Uecker and Milo Hamilton are by far the best to listen to on the radio IMO.

Baseball is better to listen to than watch.

That's why I always liked Harry Caray. It didn't matter what was going on in the game, Harry always made it fun and was a true fan of the game. I miss Harry, rest in peace Harry!
