1. Detroit
2. Pittsburgh
3. Dallas
4. San Jose
5. Montreal/Phildelphia
Those would be my top 5.

Yep, brought in Huet and Campbell, and have a great young defensive corps, and of course Kane and Toews. Should be a playoff team.

Keep an eye on the Caps. If Theodore is solid they will go far.

Nobody is mentioning Washington. They will be a force to be reckoned with. You heard it here.

They have improved sir, however not nearly enough IMO though. I still say the under 94.5 is the way to go on the points future.

Keep your eye on Igor Makarov if he makes the team.

Jose Theodore is a blank, Caps go from an A goalie in Huet to a C goalie in Jose Theodore.IMO.
Plus he comes from a family that is the biggest loan sharking family in eastern canada.

Al,
I seriously always wondered if his family played a part in Jose winning the Vezina and Hart. Perhaps a few phone calls were made to the voters??

Jose Theodore is far from solid, so Caps will have trouble on the defensive side

Theodore may get his game back, but Washington's D is pretty thin. If Theodore does get his game back Washington could do some damage. Theodore is a typical French Canadian goalie who plays the butterfly. He commits way too early and most players know this and goes top shelf. If he can alter his a game a tad bit and play decent then Washington will be right in there.

Never been sold on either guy. Both are very mediocre.

Their top two defensemen are Mike Green and Tom Poti, not much defense going to played there. Although Jeff Schultz does have some defensive skills, and some upside. They should win that division, but will probably not go far in the playoffs with such a weak d, and question in net.

Islanders could be the worst team in the NHL. And the Kings have no one goaltender.

Is the coaching change going to turn around their tendency to dissappear in the playoffs??

Theodore had a 2.44 GAA last year with the Avs. If he gets most of the starts and finishes with a similar GAA, the Caps win the east. Will he get enough help in front of him? Time will tell. We know the Caps will have no problem putting the puck in the net.

He will have no shot at putting up a 2.44 GAA with the Caps. The Caps defense is much worse, they play a wide open style that focuses more on scoring than playing defense, and teams in the East score a lot more than teams in the West. I would think he will be closer to 2.80 GAA with a SV% that is barely over .900.

There are 30 teams in the league. 13 teams gave up more goals than the Caps last year, 16 teams gave up less goals.. In the east which has 15 teams, 8 gave up more goals than the Caps. That makes them above average in their conference. They are not defensive bottom-feeders. Middle of the pack. With their firepower, they will outscore teams most nights if need be.
