There are a lot of Aholes around here, maybe some people don't wanna waste their time when 90% of the posts are just guys bragging about how they dominate these forums (even though their plays are typically hit and miss) and everyone else is a stupid beaatchh or a friggin' lib idiot.......

And it's a slow time of year......

I think you hit the nail on the head with this one. SBR is always slow like this once Spring arrives with good weather, and thank God for that as it means people are out living life. The real problem is that forums as a communication medium have almost entirely lost their lustre. It's pretty obvious reading the posts lately that 90% of the people that remain dedicated to posting are shut-ins, and very unhappy ones at that. The people that really brought something special to these places, the 1% if you will, have moved on to more intimate and exclusive means of staying in touch and sharing humour and information.

That being said, I think it's good that people with so little in their lives are able to vent here and for a time experience the feeling of being important, even if it's mostly self-importance. Just a generation ago, these guys making 40+ posts a day were much more cut off from the world. I'm sure many of them were the guys you see picking up discarded tickets from the floor of the racetrack, or sitting alone in the corner of a neighborhood bar drinking soda, watching their last $20 get flushed down the toilet with some square parlay. No friends, no future, no respect...not even from each other.

These forums have literally saved those people. By day they may deliver packages or clean office buildings, invisible to almost everyone. But then they get to log on to SBR and, for a little while, pretend they've got the keys to the kingdom and haven't lost a bet since Jimmy Carter was President. It's cute to watch, like a victim of schoolyard bullying getting to be hall monitor.

That's what SBR represents to me these days, especially since the Points program was introduced. Now not only do these guys get to strut around in their hall monitor sashes, but they get a book of food stamps every month with which to feed their addiction. The internet is transforming society before our very eyes, and for those astute enough to see what's really going on, it's free admission to the observation gallery at an open-air asylum anytime we want.

Starting around spring break things slow up a bit. The NBA, Service Plays and MLB forums will be strong until guys start checking in for pre football talk.

A few reasons for this. One is poker hasnt really been here in a few weeks and that attacts a lot of people and without that you don't have them. The next reason is that sbr use to give points away for posting and blogging and now they don't do that, there is really no incentive to give a good paragraph on why a team will win. All you have to do is say something like tricky the one eye chinese guy told me that this team is a hundred percent lock. You really have no need to post at all as your points are when you log in. I know john says traffic is up but it reality it is not. We just have 50 percent more ghosts then we use to have so it looks like it. You use to log on last year and you had 5 or 6 different free weekly and daily contests that people would play and interact with. Now its 1 or 2 major contests that you have to use your points for and these don't generate the traffic. Sbr is still great, just not as great as it use to be.
