With your logic mma should be more popular as fighting only takes 2 people and some open space. No costs at all.

I've made this analogy in the mma forum and all the hardcores tell me I'm a whining negative crybaby. However, they are the hardcores and believe mma will grow in popularity until it's the sport of kings. Anyways, the Roman empire had the coliseum where gladiators would fight to the death. People loved it but it declined in popularity over time. So weapons were added and everyone loved it but once again it became boring over time. Carriages and animals were included but once again people became bored. So the second last Roman emperor decided to flood the coliseum and have a naval battle. Boom people fukken loved it! The next Emperor had to outdo him so he had a whole area of Earth flooded and an even larger naval battle took place. Unfortunately that was the last ever gladiator/coliseum/emperor putting on a show.

Take it for what you want but people are becoming bored with these ppvs filled with unknowns.

Dana White is an idiot, but he knows how to make money. Just about everyone in the world has played soccer, but lets be real if it was that easy to be a professional soccer player almost anyone would try to do it and make money. It's one of the hardest sports to be great at.

On the other hand, it's so easy to become an MMA fighter. Anyone can do it and make some money. We even have guys on this forum that fight. You have fat slobs in all MMA organizations like Roy Nelson in the UFC and other HW's that can't even make 265 for $100,000 fights. It's hard to be a great fighter, but Junior Dos Santos has maybe 4 years fighting experience and is the UFC's HW champion. Jon Jones just started his career in the UFC and is already the champion with very few people that can even challenge him. MMA is easily the least talented sport on earth.

Here's a fight from a guy in the second biggest MMA organization. This is just some random fat guy that thinks he can fight and he got a chance. No fight instinct at all and he was tapping to the thought of being hit by strikes. Just look at the last bit of the video.

You also have guys like Hershel Walker that retired getting chances on the big show at his old age. They even gave a shot to Kimbo Slice who was nothing more than a street fighter with no prior experience and organizations paid him big money to fight. Many retired athletes from other sports get top fighting spots in Danas sport.

MMA will be a very talented sport in the future, but as it stands it is the least talented sport on earth right now.

You're not using logic correctly. If you interpret my logic that way, I guess thumb twiddling would be the most popular sport because any single person with thumbs could play it.

Also Jon Jones is a fighter because he wasn't talented enough to play in the NFL, but some how he is looking like he might be the best MMA fighter of all time.

That's how he killed it. Now everybody wears tapout shirts thinking they are mma fighters and pay for anything Dana puts out. results into 2 ppvs a month with garbage fights.

The next few PPV's are stacked. UFC is starting to give out more free shows than ever. They have made adjustments to TUF and made it live and free. There is still a lot they can do to improve it and make it better. Bellator has great tournaments that the UFC can use. The refs recently have been standing up fighters from the ground a lot sooner. Adjustments can still be made that can move the sport forward. The biggest thing MMA has over boxing is that it pays the lower level guys decent money and allows them to focus on their MMA careers. Bellator pays just about everyone $10,000 per fight and $10,000 win bonus. Then those guys get money from sponsors and chances to enter tournaments to win big money.

Your analogy may be correct, but as it stands the sport still has those 3 or 4 steps you put in your analogy to evolve. If they don't make the right moves they will fall behind. As it stands though the UFC is now worth more than it has ever been worth and the people involved have no intention of selling the company because they believe it will continue to gain value.

Another thing to look at is how it is moving internationally. Unlike other sports MMA is becoming bigger worldwide. The next event they have in Brazil is going to hold 80,000 people. With moves around the world and new markets there is no way MMA has reached it's peak.

Yep...all you need to play soccer is an inflated goat bladder, a few rusty cans to mark the goal posts, and a reasonably flat field or an empty street. Anyone can play it. It's also simple you don't have to be very intelligent to play or understand it. Anyone can tune into a game and figure out the logic of it...and since a large percentage of the world is uneducated...

Hell, the only reason little kids play it in America is for all of those reasons. Plus it is a great way to make your child exercise if he/she isn't very athletic.

I remember my brother and sister both played soccer and I refused. Played in baseball, basketball, football, and swimming leagues instead.

lol... says the guy who had to quit baseball in t-ball because of lack of talent probably. Hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in sports so yeah, it requires a lot of talent.

                                Dana White is a moron.

Hey Dana, how talented is your sport when a WWE wrestler can become the Champion in less than 10 matches?

LOL, would love to see some of you guys try to kick a soccer ball, correctly. There was a reason the Football coach came to soccer practices begging one of us to come be the kicker for his team. With all the talented people on his team, I guess not one of them could master the simple art of kicking a ball straight for 30 yds. Not to say football is easy, it isn't , but both sports take a good amount of talent.
