49-year-old Moyer pitches 4 perfect innings

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP)—Jamie Moyer had another strong outing in his bid to earn a spot in the Colorado Rockies’ rotation.

The 49-year-old left-hander struck out four in four perfect innings Thursday night to help the Rockies beat a split squad of San Francisco 7-0.

Moyer, a 24-year veteran who has won 267 major league games with seven teams, went to a three-ball count only twice and 30 of his 45 pitchers were strikes.

I remember back when he was all over the place at the plate a few years ago... and had to just toss it over the middle on a few counts... he constantly got destroyed. When he started the game... the OVER was gold.

that is what your family has been saying about you and your gambling for the last 10 years most likely. Why shouldn't Moyer try to keep making $? He hasn't been too bad, and maybe he hates his wife?

Brock , you're a washed-up SBR poster before you are 49yo. Moyer is still in contention for a MLB pitching spot

Hard to believe he is doing this for the money - love of the game most likely. I wonder what his MLB pension would be with 24yrs in the league ?

Has he even made the team yet? If he does... I don't think he'll last. For these young kids coming up to the big leagues... Moyer is so hitable... It's like the ball is on a tee. How Moyer can get so locked in at times... I'll never know? But when the wheels come off in an inning... boy do they ever come off.

Arguably, Major League Baseball (“MLB”) offers one of the best pension and healthcare programs in all of sports. Players vest in their pensions after 43 days on the active roster and just one day qualifies a player for lifetime healthcare. Playing isn’t even a requirement, bench-warmers may qualify for benefits as well. After 43 days, players qualify for the minimum benefit of $34,000 per year and those with 10 years of service receive a pension of approximately $100,000 annually.

How bad are the guys that Moyer beat out for the 5th spot? They must have been total stiffs... Moyer cracking your rotation exposes a pure lack of talent on the roster. He has to pitch in Arizona, and Colorado which are both great places to tee off on horrific pitchers.

O/U on his ERA 6.5 by the All Star break at least 5 homers

Damn nice pension plan. Just 43 days on the roster gives you $34k/yr pension. Not like $34k is a ton, but for 43 days on the roster in crazy.

His home life must be a wreck. Playing a sport with severely diminished skills is not a commendable attribute of anyone. Him making the Colorado roster, says more about the Colorado rotation than about Moyer.

We aren't really knocking the guy... he's 49 years old... if you can't get a base hit after base hit off of him... you don't deserve to play in the majors. I mean... Moyer is probably on cloud 9 right now... that sh#$ fades... he's 49 years old people... your teammates would laugh at you if you can't get on base against that guy.

just not sure how Moyer's stuff is gonna work in the thin air

                                                        I'm rooting for him

but i'll be on the over's when he pitches in Colorado for sure

Will Jamie Moyer be a rotational player after the All Star break?

at 45 he said he was going to pitch to till he was 50...

He helped the phillies and I hope he comes back as a bullpen coach or something....

DENVER (AP) Jamie Moyer is headed to the Hall of Fame.

Well, maybe his uniform anyway. Or perhaps even his glove.

Cooperstown has asked for some sort of memorabilia from Moyer to commemorate his record-setting night as the 49-year-old left-hander became the oldest pitcher to ever win a major league contest.

And whatever the Hall of Fame decides it wants, Moyer said he will certainly deliver after throwing seven efficient innings to help the Colorado Rockies beat the San Diego Padres 5-3 on Tuesday.
