What Do You Think of the NFL OT Rule?
IMO, putting the time limit on it (just one extra quarter, max)
    is fine.

But giving a win to a team that wins a coin flip and scores first on a FG blows.

Each team should be given an equal number of possessions.

As it is, too much emphasis on the kicker

NFL has had this in place for decades - doubt they'll change. But don't know why they don't

Yes, I like college OT better.

Owners are stubborn, they won't change it is my guess.

i think there has to be some middle ground on it but i don't like the college rule much either. maybe if they flat out said. every team gets 3 possessions. the reason i dont like the college rule is this....

      Team A wins coin toss
      Team A scores a touchdown

      Team B receives ball
since team B no's they need to score a touchdown or they loose there in 4 down territory the whole possession, so when its 3rd and 6 its not necessarily a automatic pass because they can pick up 2-3 yards and then have a short 4th down attempt. whereas when team A had the ball they were in 3 down territory i think it gives a disadvantage somewhat. even if a fg wins it in the nfl the defense still gave up that field goal. just putting my 2 cents in

I think the team that wins the coin toss can either choose to start at there own 10 yard line or have the other team start at there own 10 yard line. NO Kickoff. This way the team that starts with the ball needs to get about 55 yards to have a legitimate chance to kick a field goal (52 yarder).

As I posted in another thread, keep everything the same EXCEPT if the team that wins the OT toss scores on the first drive, have them kickoff to the other team as they would during regulation and give the opponent a possession. If it is still tied after each team has had a possession, THEN sudden death.

              So do I.

              Good idea.

Sounds like Arena football OT. Each team gets one possession. If still tied, then it's sudden death.

I did not know that Justin. but AFL seems to have it right. Do any Canucks know the CFL rule?

LT: I understand your annoyance at the current system, but do you really think that is better than saying the first team to 4 wins? If after 15 minutes both teams have 3, 2, or 0 points then the game is a tie. Under your system the team that wins the flip has the choice of information (kick off and know what you need on your possession), or receive (if both teams score the same amount of points in their possession it reverts to traditional overtime.

Either way both of these plans create more ties. Speaking of, is overtime in the regular season really necessary?

Great idea, I wish the NFL would implement this concept.

I would just keep the rule as is, creature of habit I suppose.

I don't like the way the colleges work it either. Starting too close to the goal line. Looks like a freakin' ping-pong game.

Full field, another 15 mins, teams get equal # of possessions.

THE WAY IT SHOULD BE DONE.

(I just sent the NFL an email tellng them to put LT on their Rules Committee)

Sounds like turning the NFL into a league of second chances. Life in the NFL just isn't fair!!!

Passed over this too fast on first read, but it's also a good idea.
