The Rain in Spain Falls Mainly on the Brain of McCain

Poor ol' dude thinks Spain is in Latin America.

Well, hey. They speak Spanish in both places, right?

Well, the title is taken from a song in an old movie (I saw it, tho I still have quite a way to go before my brain is decayed like that of McCain).

The movie was My Fair Lady, a musical starring Rex Harrison and, I think, Audrey Hepburn (both dead now, I believe).

Harrison, an speech expert in Britain, picks a poor illiterate flower selling Cockney girl and teaches her the King's English, and she thereby gains entrance into high society, so linguistically snobbish are the Brits.

One of the ways Harrison teaches Hepburn is to keep repeating, in proper English: THE RAIN IN SPAIN FALLS MAINLY ON THE PLAIN.

      Finally, breakthrough! Hepburn gets it!

      Fun film

I'll check it out, I'm a fan of old american cinema, 1970 and back. Can't watch the new stuff produced. The last time I was in a theater was for the Mel Gibson Jesus movie, I forgot what year was that.

No, Huff Post is "liberal," for the old-fashioned set that still thinks these terms mean anything. (Same story appeared in Time. McC also is on record as thinking Putin was prez of Germany, that Iraq/Afghanistan had a common border, etc)

I posted the link. Check and decide for yourself what John is saying.

Is he "conservative?" Then why did he endorse Bush's (not so) secret amnesty plan for 8 to 20 million illegals here?

Nation is run by corporations and their lobbyists. They make their own narrow interest paramount, not the nation as a whole.

They want to make the US into a carbon copy of Mexico, where 2% of the population controls 90% of the wealth.

It's not xenophobia. I have a few close friends in Mexico, and passably speak and read the language.

I'm opposed to Nafta because it was written by corporation lobbyists (I read about 25% of it's closely typed 2000+ pages) and has zero to do with "free trade.'

I agree with Lincoln that a wise nation protects its own industry. The promise of NAFTA and other free trade so-called agreements was that wage rates would rise in Mexico and so cut illegal immigration.

Well, almost 20 years an counting. Illigal immigration is worse.

I opposed the Iraq War from the get-go. So did many conservatives. (And ranking military officers) Because it was clearly not in America's interest. As has been, sadly, proven.

The "right wing" and "left wing" stuff obscures issues.

Yah, yah, you lousy Raider fan. Go Chargers!

Fuk Notre Dame, I'm a Wolverine.

That's what the political zingers amount to - a shouting contest between fans. The "liberal" and "conservative" ones.

It's a mug's game. And an opt out for me, tho I'll always give someone engaged enough to challenge me at least one reply.

Of course the Right doesn't have any talking points! If I had a quarter for every time I've heard or read where Obama is "an empty suit" then I could retire on an tropical island somewhere! Never mind that they're pulling out of Iraq in 18 months, reinforcing Afghanistan, and raiding Taliban/Al Queda staging points in Pakistan...all ideas of Barack from atleast a year ago...not to mention Palin only got popular in Alaska by a windfall profits tax rebate from the oil companies to Alaskans....another Barack platform!

I think My Fair Lady is from the 60s, maybe 70s. Once in a while you can still see it on one of the channels that shows classic old films.

It's not as old as "Casablanca" tho.

A cheapie low budget war movie that contributed some immortal expressions to the language:

                        "Round up the usual suspects."

                        "Play it again, Sam."

                        "There'll always be Paris."

I'm not tho a big fan of modern ('75 to now) Hollywood. Saw it up close and personal.

Guess the name of one of the few senators who wanted to commit ground troops in the Balkans?

Same guy who in '94 wanted to keep open options to bomb North Korea's nuclear reactor (and thereby likely kill most of the 20,000 plus US troops stationed near the Korean 38th parrellel).

He should be called "Shoot First, Ask Questions Later."

                            Initials are JM.

                            Only one guess permitted.

Face it...anyone that has a college freshman's level understanding of economics will tell you that "trickle down" economics doesn't work! If Barack was elected I believe he would learn soon enough that even after ending Iraq...there won't be enough left to do too much? Maybe universal healthcare and tax breaks for companies that hire Americans! If you think that McCain would EVER attempt to cut our dependency on oil then you truly don't understand how the Republican party works! They are as tied to oil as they are to pro-life, guns, and the military!

57 states. Clearly a slip of the tongue from a tired campaigner.

Okay, McCain's statement about Putin and Germany was also a slip of the tongue. The campaigns are absurdly long and arduous.

But McCain, the global expert, clearly did not know that there is no common border re Iraq and Afghanistan. That's not excusable.

Ditto the thinking that "Latin America" encompassed Spain. (Because Spain is not in the Americas.)

McCain also stated that "in this century one country does not invade another."

He was pretty outraged by that. But it wasn't our invasion of Iraq that he was referring to. It was Russia's (counter)invasion of Georgia.

John forgot that we had invaded Iraq. Or maybe he thought that Iraq had invited us in.

There are folks in their 70s who are still as sharp as they were in their 30s. Some even retain their sharpness into their 80s. I know one old dude who is super sharp at age 91. He has two ladyfriends. And recently drove his Lexus from Baja (where he lives in a nice home overlooking the ocean) direct to Vegas.

Get out of his way. Guy drives 85-90 mph. And very skilful behind the wheel. LIkes to gamble. And can afford it. (He told me 8 months ago that the atmosphere in America today resembles the late 1920s, which he lived through. Just before the big Stock Market Crash and onset of the Great Depression.)

Sen McCain has too many metal lapses. I believe it is the onset of a mild dementia, what are called "senior moments." And out of touch with modern reality: doesn't use computers or the internet.

Well, at least he doesn't refer to a certain popular search engine as "the googles."
