Government may bail out bad debt
At Yahoo Finance, you get free stock quotes, up-to-date news, portfolio management resources, international market data, social interaction and mortgage rates that help you manage your financial life.

Absolutely ****ing ridiculous. Once again the consumer is getting ****ed here. The banks get to screw people right and left and make huge profits but if they make bad decisions and lose money then the taxpayers get the burden.

Provided a great boost to the market today, probably only short term. Not out of the woods yet as far as the markets, and especially financials.

The companies should definitely be left to hang.

Unfortunately, half of it started w/ Freddie Mae/Mac. The govt backed them implicitly, which got us in this mess to begin with. Either have it completely private (preferred) or completely govt-owned (less preferred), but nothing in between (the worst).

Yeah. He's a Republican and the worst kind. Only a sheep of the party would promote this move. It is socialism at its absolute worst. Sickening how some people can't comprehend this...

Here's the original lines of the old Marxist song, The Internationale (I learned it as a kid in NYC from a Socialist Workers Party girl I was going with):

                Arise, ye prisoners of starvation,
Arise, ye wretched of the earth!
                For Justice thunders: "Condemnation!"
                A better world's in birth.

Now here's the new Wall Street/Capitol Hill version:

                ARISE, YE GLOBAL CORPORATIONS,
ARISE, YE WEALTHY OF THE EARTH!
FOR BAILOUTS ARE OUR LAST SALVATION
                AND INCREASE OUR NET WORTH!

The young lady eventually increased her own net worth by later marrying one of the young med students who was in that Marxist party.

When he got out of school and set up practice they moved to the suburbs and got their piece of the American Dream.

A case where "ideology" got a girl a well-off lifemate.

Now, decades later, they probably vote the straight GOP ticket

Gold is still good, even at the "inflated" price.

All this money that was created out of thin air will be paid back with inflated money. Possibly approaching hyper-inflation.

Go into debt now, and pay back with cheaper dollars later.

Paying for these bailouts will be done, can only be done, via hyperinflation.

Bad times ahead, whoever gets the nod in Nov

I think I will go buy a dime of scratch off lottery tickets. If I win then I get to keep all the money. If I lose then I get my money back. To make it even more 'corporate' like I will buy the lotto tickets, beat the shit out of the cashier, steal another dime of lotto tickets, lose, and then get my money back. The republican way.

That is the truth of it and the little man is gonna pay for it all. Let us recap the Bush era. We are in the middle of 2 wars. Half the world hates us and the other half really hates us. We are about an inch away from world war 3. The economy is in shambles. Stock market is on the way down. Your bank account is no longer safe. Corporate greed has been given a green light and a pass. Homes are no longer affordable if you can even get a loan that is. The price of gas is outrageous and even with oil falling the investors will not let gas prices come down. Unemployment is on the rise bigtime. School systems are being shorted money because the state's budgets have been stripped bare. I could go on and on but most people with a brain get the point.

When the government did this before they took in not only bad debts but also assets. In this case the government i.e. taxpayers will take in only the bad debts leaving the banks with all their assets intact and no debt. Must be nice. To be fair maybe the government should wipe out all the credit card debt owed to these banks who are getting a free ride. It would only be fair.
