    Gift for guy in hospital?
    Need some ideas here please...

Found out today a friend of mine was hospitalized last week with a brain tumor which he had surgery to remove. The Dr's are hopeful they got all of it, but there's always a chance it can come back. He will be in a "battle with cancer" for the rest of his life... (He is taking chemo).

He's at a rehab hospital adjacent to the main hospital, where's he's expected to be for a couple more weeks. I'm planning to go visit him tomorrow, and need help with a gift idea. He loves sports (like most guys), I was thinking maybe a motivational/inspirational sports book to read? He works as a superintendant at my local golf course (so of couse he loves golf), and he's also a huge Mich State fan (basketball & football.)

Have any of you guys read anything that might be appropriate? Or do you have any other ideas?

    Thx in advance!

    ~VV~

Vixen, ALL sports guys love signed sports memorabilia....If put into a plaque it could maybe be hung on the wall. Something for him to look at when trying to beat the monotony of hospital...GL to your friend...

Both great ideas, but wouldn't be able to find either in time for tomorrow's visit... that's OK though, he lives in my neighborhood and I can have something waiting for him at his house when he goes home...

I was also thinking about getting him a couple tix for the NCAAB tourney round 2/3 in Greensboro NC (about a 2-hr drive from here) but the games are mid-March and I just don't know if he'll be well enough to attend.

Not trying to be disrespectful but would a hand job be out of the question? Guarantee that would blow any other gifts out of the water.

Will know more about his strength tomorrow when I see him. Kinda funny cuz we're both single and the friends we have in common have tried to get us to hook up for years... Instead we just became really good friends, we go out for dinners, drinks, to each others' houses, our dogs play together etc. but it never went anywhere beyond that.

Can be done covertly without nurses and doctors noticing anything weird.

LOL OK guys thanks for the ideas. I'm headed out to the furman/woff bball game, but will check back in later. I really like the sports memoribilia idea, will look on the net later tonight, as there's no where local for that kind of stuff. I'll probably end up bringing some books/magz with me tomorrow, and order something else for later...

I'll letcha know how the visit goes

FOOD! I mean greasy, salty, artery clogging food. Hospital food is the absolute worse. I was in the hospital for 3 days for a minor op. My uncle brought me burger and fries one day, and pizza the next. As stupid as it sounds, I will never forget that. Words can't explain how much of a moral boost you get from seeing a pizza walk through your door

OK so here's the short-term plan...
Bring books/mags tomorrow & asess how he's doing. Possibly bring 1- snuggly things or 2- yummy things next time I see him. Of course offer love & support, and just hang out & watch the games with him (which is what we "normally" do)...
Offer to watch his dog "mulligan" for the next week or so... she's probably at his sister's house & she can be a handful. Besides, my dog "blackjack" enjoys her company.
I'm hopeful he's in good spirits, he's generally a positive guy and I'd expect his approach to this to be "I'm gonna kick cancer's ass" but who knows how one would actually handle it when it happens.

Thanks again to all you guys for the ideas. Hope your friends & loved ones are never in this position...

well you being there would be enough if you ask me, a guy who has been in the hospital for months at a time. and have been in a hosptial for at least two weeks six years straight now.

but i always enjoyed when someone brought me food, because the hospital food sucks ass. even though some are much better then others its still not top quality.

                                                    cash is always good too.

In the drink , how would you like me speak to a young lady, like most of these guys telling her to give a hand job or blow job for a gift, listen I am in my 60's and saw many of my close friends in a hospital bed recovering from brain cancer how about you. have you ever really seen a good friend so ill that they are crying and suffering in pain and there is nothing you can do for them. Try to have class as you go through this hell hole of a world, would you want me to talk to your sister or mother politely or would you suggest that they should blow someone. Be a gentleman to the opposite sex it just may payoff , and keep your ass hole fukking comments to yourself, because I'tt teach you what its like to deal with a real motherfukker, punk.

A book about Lance Armstrong and how he defeated cancer. How much more inspiring could anything be than that?
