    Techie guys talk to me
    I need a new desktop. I like to use Internet Explorer. I also like to play games once in while so I'd like the graphics card to be good. It cannot be a MAC so please dont try to convert me.

    I guess 4 gig of RAM should be the minimum but what do I know. I need the tower only (already have keyboard and nice big monitor). Hoping to spend about a nickel. What's the best bang for my buck baby?!@

        You can get an acceptable PC for $500, but if you want a decent graphics card, yeah, closer to $1000.

          Ok, I just need medium system requirements. The game I want to play says it needs this (recommended not minimum) and I'd like to get at least this if not a bit better.

          Recommended System Requirements
          * OS: Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7
          * CPU: Intel Pentium Core 2 @ Duo E6400 @ 2.13 Ghz, AMD Athlon II X2 240 @ 2.8 Ghz
          * RAM: 2 GB
          * HDD: 8 GB free disk space
          * Graphics: 1 GB Graphics Memory, Pixel Shader 3.0, Vertex Shader 3.0
          * Sound Card: DirectX 9 Compatible
          * DirectX: Version 9.0c
          Supported Graphics Cards:
          Minimum – NVidia GeForce 8600GTS, ATI Radeon HD 2600XT
          Recommended – NVidia GeForce 8800GTX, ATI Radeon HD 3870

          Tell me if there's anything on this page that fits that bill. http://www.walmart.com/browse/Comput...29389&ic=32_32

                    Get Core i5 2500k + Motherboard total should be like 300 tops. Don't need beast motherboard
                    I'm assuming you already have a Hard drive you can use
                    Get 8 gigs of ram will cost like 30 bux
                    New Tower Case 25 bux
                    You can get asomething like ATI 6870 for like 130ish after rebate
                    You can get a new PSU for like 35 bux after rebate that's a descent power supply.

                    total should be like 515 for a descent computer that'll last you for a while.

                        Swinging Johnson....

                        Honestly, if you where so inclined (and it's not THAT hard) I'd build your own computer from the ground up. Once you purchase all of the parts and what not, you'll spend a lot less than if you just purchased a desktop from a retail store. Plus if you build your own, you can focus in on what you need it for. IE: If you want to use it for games, then you can get a solid graphics card and some nice sized RAM...

                            while true, i would not suggest it if you aren't the least bit computer literate. the hardest part is making sure the hsf has a good connection with the cpu without crushing it. if it doesn't.......poof, you just fried your new cpu

                            also, by the time he buys windows and other software he's better off buying from a B&M

                            i've always been partial to lenovo (ibm to the novice) then grab yourself a nice gpu and you're set

                                  Monitor-Tan is right about the RAM. If you're going to play games you will need at least 8GBs.

                                  I would also go with an i5 processor. The new i7 processors don't perform all that much better and they cost a lot more.

                                    its gonna be hard to build a decent system for $500.

                                    i just ran through newegg and with an i5 $180, 8gb $50, 1.5tb $99, case $34 AR, 6750 radeon $85 AR, $33 psu AR, mb $55 AR, and im already at $589 with $52 back in rebates. thats not including any cd drives/hsf/OS/etc.
