Cubs-Astros games postponed because of Ike

HOUSTON (AP)—The first two games of this weekend’s series between the Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros have been postponed because of the potential impact of Hurricane Ike.

The teams were to have started a three-game series in Houston on Friday night. No makeup dates have been set.

“There are various scenarios under consideration with regards to the rescheduling of the postponed games,” the Astros said in a statement.

Ike had sustained wins of near 100 mph on Thursday and was expected to make landfall on the Texas coast late Friday or early Saturday. Some forecasts projected that Ike could strengthen to a Category 4 hurricane with winds of at least 131 mph.

They can play a doubleheader on Monday; both teams are off. Not really what you want to do at this stage of the season, play a twinbill. But no doubt the smarter thing to do for the teams and fans. Much better than that pussy Derrek Lee's idea to play the entire series at a neutral site.

wow, so no games for them on Friday or Saturday. That's unusual.

These hurricanes usally know better than to hit towns with a chance of a playoff spot.

Maybe Ike didn't know of the Astros streak, stupid Hurricane.

If it follows the current track, looks like landfall around Christmas Bay south of Galveston Isle. Good fishing down there. Surge will be very costly, and there's relatively few people north of say the old Hobby Airport (South Houston) that are evacuating. I'd make some tough guy Texas comment about that's just the way Houstonians roll, but those are literally my brothers and sisters there so my thoughts and prayers are with them. If winds stay what they are and you don't get tornadoes, just a bunch of water.
