Depends on your definition of 'close.' We are 225 miles from the coastline. They are saying that it could still be a Cat 1 when it rolls through our area later on Saturday. We have a good 4-5 day stores on hand -- water, canned goods, cooking gear, beer -- should we lose power. Can't do much about any tornadoes it might spawn other than hunker down and pray.

Not sure about Hurricane Pike, but Amarillo is about 600 miles from where Hurricane Ike is supposed to make landfall, Dikker. I really don't recall the last hurricane to strike the Texas Panhandle.
