How about starting with a bankroll, putting everything on let's say a -300 then start playing with only the profits. Anyone ever done this?

Anyone ever play only big chalk? Sure the percentages go up and the revenue build-up is slow, so is it worth it?

No its not worth it, because at some point that big favorite WILL lose... and then what?

                            Its all about value....

At -300, you are betting 3 to win 1... This means you have to pick better then 75% winners at this clip to turn a profit.

So for every 100 bets you make at -300 (should be same amount every time), if you win 76 or more of these bets, you profit.

If you can cap 80% winners with big chalk (knowing when to lay off when the line is off and being able to sniff out false favorites or live dogs so you don't bet these faves), knock yourself out!

JRS chalk is a favorite no matter how big. When you have to risk more than what you would win, the extra risk is the chalk.

Guys its all about value. You will go broke just as quick betting +300 dogs as you will betting -300 favorites if you do it randomly. If you don't believe me then try it.

The term chalk comes from the white boards that sportsbooks used to have. Favorites get bet up often, forcing line movement, and subsequently the sportsbook clerk would have to get out the chalk to write the new line.

Restricting yourself to betting chalk is an excellent way to lose your money as quickly as possible, especially if you are not betting inefficient lines in your favor.
