The umpire always replaces a pitched ball that hits the ground with a new one, immediately.

I can't remember exactly when they used to keep using the same ball, but it seems as though replacing a pitched ball that hits the ground is a fairly recent change, is this correct?

Scuffs the ball up and can give the pitcher an advantage. I'm not sure when they implemented this but I would think its been around a long time.

I understand why they do it, I just rember years ago that they would use a scuffed ball and not immediately replace the ball like they do today.
