This depends on what you mean by USA. Israel is a tool for US hegemony in the region. That is, the US uses Israel to promote its corporate influence and interests. Now if you're talking about the interests of the general US population and that of other peoples in the region then I would say current US and Israel policies are detrimental.
For example, I would say that a real peace settlement with the Palestinians would benefit all people and is very possible. But it would not serve the interests of American hegemony. Constant war and aggression does.
