Russia Sending Ships and Planes to the Caribbean...
Russia to send ships, planes to Venezuela By IAN JAMES, Associated Press Writer
Mon Sep 8, 6:35 PM ET

CARACAS, Venezuela - Russia's plan to deploy ships and warplanes to the Caribbean for joint military exercises with Venezuela is allowing President Hugo Chavez to capitalize on tensions between Moscow and the U.S. and showcase a growing military alliance.

Russia announced on Monday that it will send a naval squadron and long-range patrol planes for the exercises later this year — a move that appeared retaliatory after the U.S. sent warships to deliver aid to Georgia following its conflict with Russia.

The deployment is expected to be the largest Russian naval maneuvers in the Caribbean — and perhaps the Western Hemisphere — since the Cold War.

Chavez considers the U.S. a defense threat, and his welcoming of the Russian navy contrasted with his sharp criticism of the recent reactivation of the U.S. Navy's Fourth Fleet for the Caribbean and Latin America. He ridiculed possible U.S. concerns about the Russian deployment on Sunday, saying: "Go ahead and squeal, Yankees."

"This is vintage Chavez. He rarely misses an opportunity to needle and provoke Washington," said Michael Shifter, an analyst at the Washington-based think tank Inter-American Dialogue. "He is taking advantage of the growing chill in U.S.-Russia relations, especially over the situation in Georgia, to poke his finger in (President) Bush's eye. There is nothing he relishes more."

Chavez says the U.S. Fourth Fleet — which was dissolved after World War II — poses a threat to the region. U.S. officials say the fleet will help maintain security while performing humanitarian missions and counter-drug operations.

Anna Gilmour, an analyst at Jane's Intelligence Review, said she believes the exercises will be primarily for the benefit of Venezuela, which has been drawing closer to Russia and buying weapons from Kalashnikov assault rifles to Sukhoi fighter jets. She said the maneuvers also appear to be a response to the relaunch of the U.S. Fourth Fleet.

"By allowing Russian vessels to dock at Venezuelan ports, Chavez is sending the message that the U.S. is not the only major power active in the Caribbean," Gilmour said.

The U.S. government, however, appeared unconcerned.

U.S. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack poked fun at Russia's navy, saying if Russia really intends to send ships to the Caribbean, "then they found a few ships that can make it that far."

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Nesterenko insisted that Russia's decision to send a naval squadron and planes to Venezuela was made before Russia's war with Georgia and is unrelated to the conflict.

But last week, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin warned that Russia would mount an unspecified response to recent U.S. aid shipments to Georgia using Navy vessels on the Black Sea.

Shifter said it's clear Russia in "unhappy about the U.S.'s increasing presence in the Black Sea" and "as part of its resurgent nationalism, Russia wants to flex its muscles and remind Washington that it too has important alliances in the U.S. backyard."

This guy would be in an insane asylum if he was in the US. Because he is insane. A power hungry lunatic who is pissed because he knows the US won't let him take over any countries around his.

It would take us just a little longer for the USA to take over Russia as it would Iraq. Russia is not half as strong as they were in WW2. If China stepped in, WW3 would be started and Japan would immediately start ripping them to shreds.

      If WW3 starts:

      Commies +2600
Good guys -40000 (yes I meant to put that extra zero)

It would be USA, England, France, Italy, Germany, Japan vs. China, Russia, and North Korea. And oh yea Venezuala

I'm afraid it would be a nuclear war anyway.

If not then our ground forces would simply be re-deployed in other areas.

Then why was it ok for us to arm multiple neighbors of theirs and make or have plans to make military alliances with them - latvia, estonia, lithuania, Georgia, Poland, Georgia.............

This isn't complicated people. George Bush and his assenine policies have provoked Russia into retaliating and bringing us all closer to more Wars. And for what?

                      Sauce for the goose . . .

Any nation (like Russia) that counters the neoconistic control of the USA is not against the US, only against our crazy controllers. As am I, and those others who see thru the propaganda.

Unlike Iraq, Russia has nuclear warheads aimed at the U.S.

And, Russia has a big advantage in a nuclear war. The average Russian is rural in his heart, part of the eternal countryside of Matushka Rossiya, Mother Russia.

Moscow and St Petersburg could be destroyed, but that would not destroy Matushka Rossiya. When Napoleon occupied Moscow the people of Russia set fire to the city.

Americans, on the other hand, are urban in their souls. Even if they live in the country or some small town in the remoter Rockes.

If you reduce New York City, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago to a nuclear ember (even Las Vegas) the American in his heart would feel his country has been destroyed.

The "spirtual" advantage belongs wholly to Russia.

And as Napoleon (who should know) once said: In war the spiritual outweighs the material by a ration of 3 to 1.

The amazing stupidity of the "American people" may well put McCain/Palin in the White House. She of the cracked dispensationalist views that Israel must take over all the Mideast and expel or kill the Palestinians. (This is the standard view of the "Left Behind" religious zealots - the church she belongs to adheres to these views.)

If John and Sarah take the oath of office in January
America becomes the Numero Uno country to get the hell out of.

Well, US invaded but could not conquer Iraq. And will be leaving (at the insistence of the US installed Iraq govt) without establishing a huge base in the Middle East, which had to be one of the strategic war aims. (US in building the biggest embassy in the world in the GreenZone - all for nought.

US will also lose in Afghanistan. Just as Allie the Great did 2300 years ago (even with the ploy of marrying an Afghan woman); just as England did in 19th century; and as the Soviet Union did about 30 years go. Which is why they are no longer the "Soviet Union." War helped to bankrupt them.

Interesting perspective hook. The US has never been invaded (mainland). Although the US is constantly at war its never protecting its own soil directly. Maybe this is why too many Americans are gong ho about war.

                                Basically right.

In America, the watchword for several centuries was "unlimited space." GO WEST YOUNG MAN was the most popular password in the 19th century.

When I was a kid (and maybe still so today, but I doubt it) California was the place to get a new start in life, if you got into trouble in your home state, or couldn't get untracked from a losing lifestyle.

Which is why I went to California!!

Nations in Europe would fight multiple wars over tiny pieces of territory, that wouldn't even fit into the city of greater Los Angeles.

We had everything given to us - friendlies at the northern borders, and Third Worlders to our south, whom we easily defeated in a war in the 1830s and grabbed their territory - the entire American southwest!

We thought we lived in an impregnable fortress. Which is why 911 made such a dramatic impact on our psyches.

The fortress had been breached!! And even if Bush and friends trashed the Constitution, it doesn't matter. THE FORTRESS HAD BEEN BREACHED. Pull up the bridge, bolt the gate!

That it was New York City, and the World Trade Center, the home office of the financial Masters of the Universe, made it al the more horrifying for Americans.

The impact would not have been anywhere near as earthshaking if the planes had crashed (sorry darkhorse and sham) into the town hall of Hungry Horse, Montana.

I think the fortress has been breached when the nuclear ballistic missile carrying submarine, the intercontinental ballistic nuclear missile and the intercontinental ballistic nuclear missile carrying aircraft were manufactured and put in use by our enemies.

Man we sent ships to give aid to the supressed people of Georgia. To help them. Russia is bad people man. They want to take over East Europe or at least some of it and are just pissed that they can't completely take over other nations and force them to pay all their money to the Russian government. Its commons sense man. Thats what communism (or Russia's new "non communistic government") is. You take as many people under you as possible and take their money. The government people keep most of it and the rest is dispursed to the other people equally. It doesn't matter how smart you are, you can only go so far in life with communism. The government literally owns you. You think we have it bad here in America?

This is not the Cold War. Russia is more capitalistic than the US right now. There are more millionaires in Moscow than New York. And the Russian military is as advanced as the US military. If a war breaks out between Russia and US both economies will bankrupt. Well... the US economy is already bankrupt due to the multi-trillion dollar deficit.

It wont start JRS. Palin just likes to flex his muscles like the Venezuela guy. Makes him feel powerful. They are envious of whoever is the US president because that person is considered the most powerful in the world.

You know how when you grew up there were certain kids who just had to get attention, to try to show they are tough even though there were 50 other guys in school that would take them to the wood shed if provoked enough. Attention whores.

No different here, just on a global scale.
