#38Good luck HappyBoy, week 1 and already going for the bailout or barrelled in system, wow. I'm on the other side and I couldn't buy a winner yesterday so you may want to take out a quick mortgage on the house while your at it, and really go for it.Comment -

#40Originally posted by pats3peatYou did $1000 on a parlay or a bunch of parlays?
I didn't mean literally playing parlays in the wagering sense of the word. I just meant I took that $950 and over the course of the season (mostly straight bets) I went up (or parlayed it into) $13000, nickel and diming my sportsbook (Bowmans at the time). I rarely play parlays.Comment -

#41Take it from a semipro poker player.....All-In isn't what its cracked up to be unless you're holding the nuts (best hand)....and Tav Jackson is 37 off-suit (shit hand).
Playing in a poker tournament...you can win several All-ins and not make the final table but lose 1 and you're GONE!Comment -

#59Last year was my first year betting. My story is similar to yours, but yours tops mine, I think. I started out dabbling with $500. I had 4 wins in a row before suffering my first loss, which set me back to $600, almost where I started. I boosted my account to $2,000 and bet on DAL who were underdogs to CHI. (I still can't figure that one out, but I laughed my way to the bank) My account went to $4,000. I then did the dumbest thing... ...I went all in on TEN vs NO. I won the bet but I still say the move was dumb because I felt my heart sink into my shoes as soon as I placed the bet. Fate favors the bold I guess... ...or perhaps insane. Take your pick. My account shot up to $11,000. (I had the money line and TEN was the underdog so the payout was well over 100%)Originally posted by crackerjackWent all in once several years ago. Down to my last $500 from a $5000 bankroll. Took Titans first half and their kicker got hurt. Needed a last second 50 yarder from the punter. He nailed it and I cashed. Parlayed that money into $13000 and cashed out $10K for a nifty profit on the season. It's my favorite gambling story. But if you lose, you're done.
My adventures were not over yet. I soon fell victim to the songs of the sirens singing "parlay". Over the next few weeks I proceeded to decimate my account. By week 8 my account was down to $3,000. I had lost $8,000. I had been waiting for week 8 the entire season. It had match after match that fit exactly what I look for when choosing a game to bet on. I had a serious decision to make. I could take the $3,000 off the table and pat myself on the back for a 50% gain for the season... (I'm a stock trader, and 50% is bragging rights in that arena.) ...or I could go for it on what I felt was the best opportunity of the season. My balls grew larger than my brains once again. I bet $2,000 on a 3 team parlay and $1,000 on a 5 team parlay. I won both. My account shot up to approx. $18,000. After that week I started losing money again and pulled out in week 12 after a bet that I thought was a lock turned out to be a turd. I put $5,000 on PIT who was -15.5 favs to beat MIA. It rained and Heinz field turned into a mud pit. PIT 3 vs MIA 0. I pulled out with $12,500. I am pretty proud of that accomplishment, even if it was accomplished through blatant acts of stupidity.
I learned a ton. I toned things down this year and spent a lot of time trying to refine what I'm doing. I started with $200 and I'm already up to $721. I am searching for the balance between the brash, bold act of going all in, and more sensible strategies that will leave me with something if I lose. This is all a percentage game to me. If I can get the percentages working without scaring the crap out of myself then I'll start to feed this monster again. I had a rocket ride, but I am all too aware that it could have easily gone south on me.
$2,000 to $12,500 is 625%. I'll probably still be bragging about it when I'm 80... ...but $500 to $10,000! That's a 2,000%!!! That's awesome!!!
Going all in is a ballsy move. It's a great way to boost your account if you win, but it's game over if you lose. GLComment
