    NFL Sunday: Fading the Rookies
Taking Cincy. Offense good, defense a work in progress.

But still should handle Ravens Rookie Joe Flacco, and rookie HC Harbaugh. (Harbaugh wanted to start either Smith or Boller, but illness or injury to those forced him to go with the rook)

Also, for similar reason, Detroit over Atlanta. Rookie HC (ok he coached a game or two after that Nomad in Search of Gold, Bobby Petrino, bolted for Arkansas) teams with rookie QB Ryan.

Nothin's impossible, but odds favor experience over rooks.

Cincinnatti should not be favored on the road. With a muddy field they will be running the ball a lot and Baltimore is a better running team than Cincinnatti. Lions will win because the game is indoors and they play extremely well indoors. It's also Calvin Johnson's homecoming.

It's a point to consider, pr, but as of 10PM ET/7 PT the rain seems to have either stopped or let up considerably, and there is a high forecast for tomorrow in the mid 80s.

Modern NFL fields are built to dry quickly, or to shed rain entirely. (Field was also likely oovered.) Baltimore has something called Sportexe Momemtum Turf. I don't know what in hell that is, but I'd wager it won't be muddy at kickoff tomorrow.

In 3 of the last four years Cincy has opened the season on the road, and won and covered 2 or the 3. I'm not big on such "trends," however, I leave those to people like Marc Lawrence.

BTW, I was the other day out on the beach, late afternoon, laying on a towel and reading a Nat'l Geo, when a large group of Russians came strolling by. And stopped maybe 25 yards from me.

I don't speak the language, but know the sounds and the rhythm. (A friend 10-12 years ago was hired by the Russian Mafia to run a restaurant at Moscow airport and married a whore he met there. I used to listen to them talk.)

The Russians on the sand talked for a long time, half an hour maybe. I heard them mention a few local towns, probably where they were headed.

And just before they left I heard this one guy, with some trepidation in his voice, say, several times, "McCain."

I almost jumped up and told him there were also a number of Americans who shared his fear of the crawling-toward-senility warmonger --- but figured they'd think I was just another crazy American.

                    Baltimore is the pick here.

                          Right. Me too.

But as you noted in a polit post, those who saw thru the Georgian invasion of S Ossetia and the righteous Russian reponse ---- in that instance, those Americans who knew the game being played were "Russians."

Because in that case being pro-Russian was being pro-American; genuine US interests do not lie in provoking The Bear.

In the same way re the war of words and propaganda betweeen the US and Iran. I'm on Iran's "side," as that country has never and does not now harm the true interests of the US anywhere near as much as do the activities of some of our putative "friends."

Sorry to all for the intrusion of the Debbil Politics into a football thread. It's a disease --- which hopefully will be either cured or much alleviated come next Jan 20.

McCain said "We're all Georgians now" like he's ready to move in American military troops and hardware and go at it? Someone wrote a good article I read about Russia's state of mind concerning Georgia. It said what if American had lost the Cold War and Russia was in a war in South America and suddenly starting supporting & supplying Mexico? The Russians aren't going to stand for us trying to turn Georgia and the Ukraine into an American style democracy just like we wouldn't want them in Canada or Mexico!

bengals have a history of losing to rookie quarterbacks.

                              examples:

That's right. If the socialist Cardenistas, the PRD, won a pres election in Mexico (and last one was very close, I'm not the only one who believes fraud gave the election to the globalist PAN) it is possible that the Cardenistas, just to yank the tail of the gringos, would allow Russia to come in and train its troops.

But were those rookies playing in their first NFL game ever, or was it later in the season?

And were those rook QBs shoved into the gap because of injury or illness to the two vets in front of them, or were they groomed in preseason to be the starters for the opener?

I wouldn't want everyone to agree with everything I say. (Not sure I always do myself!)

Difference of opinion, as they say at the track, is what makes a horse race.

i can't see any way, shape, or form of cincy losing. baltimore didn't get better on offense, new head coach, older defense that isn't any better than last year, and a brand spanking new QB in a system that has done nothing but draft bust qb's. cincy all the way and should be best bet of week if you ask me.

Picking Cincy and Detroit seems to easy. I feel both are better team but we all know the better team doesn't always win. Strange things happen in the NFL when you least expect it. Might go the other way and parlay Baltimore and Atlanata.

But were those rookies playing in their first NFL game ever, or was it later in the season?

And were those rook QBs shoved into the gap because of injury or illness to the two vets in front of them, or were they groomed in preseason to be the starters for the opener?

a little bit of both instances. some were later in the season. some due to injury (Volek at Tennessee when McNair got injured and Gradkowski at Tampa). Anderson was 2nd week last year after Frye was shipped out of Cleveland.

At or near halftime it appears that JJ and other skeptics may have been correct.
