Good stuff as usual Nancy. Best o' luck this year.
NFL Picks: Jets-Dolphins matchup intrigues
If ever there was a game that begged to lead this first column of the season, it has to be the Jets/Dolphins matchup. Many storylines are swirling around this contest.
On March 4, Brett Favre announced his retirement from the NFL. Surely I wasn’t the only one to think it wouldn’t stick. While Green Bay didn’t send Favre packing as a precursor to his “retirement,” they weren’t begging him to stay, either.
So, today, Favre will still be wearing a bit of green, only this time there is no complementing yellow. It’s green and white for Brett as he starts this NFL season behind center for the N.Y. Jets. In addition to Favre, the Jets also picked up Alan Faneca and Damien Woody to shore up their offensive line and top draft pick Vernon Gholston for the defense.
Changes have been rampant in Miami as well and for a team that finished at 1-15, change was sorely needed. Sending Cam Cameron packing was essential, as it seemed the head coach was the worst part of last season’s team. Miami installed Bill Parcells as the executive vice president of football operations. Whatever that lofty title means, it probably also means more wins for the Fins.
Tony Sparano comes in at head coach after spending five seasons as an assistant in Dallas. Chad Pennington, former Jets’ QB, will start for the Dolphins, and will be protected by the No. 1 overall draft pick, Jake Long. And, after a drug-checkered past, former Heisman Trophy winner Ricky Williams is back in the fold, along side Ronnie Brown.
With many changes on both teams, which will lead to success on the field? I’m thinking the combination in Miami adds up to a win for the … Dolphins.
Detroit (minus 3) at Atlanta … Lions. (Lions –3)
Cincinnati (minus 1) at Baltimore …. Bengals (Bengals –1)
Seattle (Plus 1) at Buffalo … Bills. (Bills –1)
Kansas City (Plus 16 1/2) at New England … Patriots (Chiefs +16.5)
Tampa Bay (plus 3) at New Orleans … Saints. (Saints –3)
St. Louis (plus 7 1/2) at Philadelphia … Eagles. (Rams +7.5)
Houston (plus 6 1/2) at Pittsburgh … Steelers. (Texans +6.5)
Jacksonville (minus 3) at Tennessee … Jaguars. (Titans +3)
Dallas (minus 5 1/2) at Cleveland … Cowboys. (Browns +5.5)
Carolina (plus 9) at San Diego … Chargers (Panthers +9)
Arizona (minus 2 1/2) at San Francisco … Cardinals (Cardinals –2.5)
Chicago (plus 9 1/2) at Indianapolis … Colts. (Colts –9.5)
Monday's Games
Minnesota (plus 2 1/2) at Green Bay … Packers. (Packers – 2.5)
