Chairman Barney Frank Predicts 2009 Defeat of UIGEA
Congressman Barney Frank has boldly told reporters that he believes 2009 will be the year that the Democrat-controlled Congress will overturn the 2006 UIGEA, which effectively seeks to ban internet gambling. This is especially significant since Frank is chairman of the House Financial Services Committee and author of a bill that would legalize and regulate Internet gambling.

    The full article is here:

We encourage you to visit www.safeandsecureig.org where you can learn more and contact your member of Congress to take action on this important issue.

    Thanks.

There is more probability of Frank and Democrat Congress defeating the UIEGA IF we have a Democrat President! McCain and his Christian Mulah Palin would veto it.

      So vote for Barack Obama!!!!

Let me guess, the poker player bill is gaining more traction.

I think in a way this kind of stuff would be better received at 2+2.

An outright overturn of the UIGEA would be great. But these bills they are coming out with that throws sports gambling under the bus for the sake of poker playing is no good for us obviously.

Means nothing, don't even waste your time following it.

On the same topic, I saw on CSpan yesterday Bill Frist trashing Obama at some luncheon. What a scumbag that guy is. And Fox News has Tom DeLay in an interview yesterday on politics. One of the most corrupt guys in history and Fox gives him interview status. Unreal.

Problem is, it's like shouting "fire" in a movie theater. Most people just react without thinking. As experts on this have stated (not me), the legislation does nothing for sports betting. Nothing, because the leagues can opt out, which they all will.

                  Defeat of UIGEA

                  Hey CrazyL,

I'm looking to have a meaningful conversation on this matter. Regardless of whether or not you agree with Franks prediction, I think its safe to say we all have the same goal of overturning the UIGEA. My goal here is to keep like minded individuals in the loop as well as encourage others to take up this issue with their congressional representative.

The problem is the bill does nothing to help sports bettors cause, so it's a bit self serving to continually post updates of it here, as Seattle Slew alluded to. The goal may ultimately be the same, but I'm not sure our interests on this bill are. Not even close.

I'm surprised FOX hasn't given him a job.

Frank's bill really helps the poker players out. It will marginally help out the sports investor by making it easier to transfer funds, which is the main problem now. I think that sports investing will still be illegal and that's O.K. with me.

This is what matters. I'd rather have Neteller back than Pinnacle, although I'd obviously like to have both.

So what if the Leagues opt out!

The U.S. government wouldn't know which financial transactions from Neteller/gambling processor are related to poker gambling or sports investing! Get it? We would all win because we'd be able to use places like Neteller again! No more delays!

Too many rich bastard scumbag poker players. They form a strong lobby and have to be reckoned with somewhat by the politicians. Their angle is poker is "the All American game." Yeh, I guess screwing your neighbor is the all American game.
