Other than it involves pushing a funny looking weight down a sheet of ice with scrapers/sweepers trying to steer and affect the speed of said funny looking weight, not a damn thing.

TodaysAction,
You continue to prove why you're the worst poster on SBR. Keep up the good work.
I wonder how many posters SBR has lost because of TA?

AnotherLoan,
Why don't you go back to where you were posting yesterday trying to be buddy-buddy with mo.
As mentioned plenty of times, start a thread of your own and if it interests me I'll join in but yet time & time again , you fail to do such. Are you incapable of starting a new thread or is it you can not conceive an idea that might be worth dialog?
Nice try AL, go find the rock you crawled out from under and have a nice night.

Does the weight have a name? It reminds me of a shuffleboard table at a pub I use to attend with the way the scoring triangle is set up. Are there leagues? Yes, I could google it but thought some here might know.

I could tell you a hell of a lot about it. It is probably my favorite sport.
I have never thrown a rock (that's what the weight is called) but I love to spectate. Some of my greatest sports thrills of my lifetime have involved curling. I have shed tears over dramatic curling games on more than one occasion. I kid you not.
It is a cerebral game of complex strategy combined with pinpoint physical finesse - and power in some situations.
Canada has dominated the world for about the last 30 years. I would guess we have won more than half the world championships, both men's and women's, over that time.
It is an Olympic sport. The Canadian men are defending champs.
Now China is trying to take over. They have started having full-time professional teams who do nothing but curl (as opposed to the other top teams who make money on cash spiels but usually have regular jobs.)
After being nowhere on the scene about 2 years ago, the Chinese women made it to the final game of the last World Championships. They seemed like very nice young ladies however it is a disturbing trend.
I could go on and on. Yes there are leagues. Anything in particular you would like to know?

I would proudly add that Canada is reigning World Champion on both the Men's and Women's sides - so those devil-worshiping Chinese haven't caught us yet.

As a matter of fact, yes if you don't mind.
1) Is the field of play the same size for all divisions (age groups/ability level) and what would those dimensions be?
2) How heavy is the rock (poundwise)?
3) Scoring system. Each section of the triangle is worth a certain amount of points, how many for each portion? Does the rock have to be 100% in the scoring area to count or can only a portion be there for it to be scored. Going last would be a large advantage to knock your opponent off the board.
That's all for now and thanks for explaining some of this to me.

"Nice try AL, go find the rock you crawled out from under and have a nice night."
I was actually being serious when i came into your thread and told you what i know,(as silly as it may of sounded) if you had been humane with me, i may of even searched out the pic for you.
I have never spoke with you here,or gave you any reason to bother me, never entered a thread of yours or provoked you in any way, unlike others you claimed have.
You've been here a month and after reading some of your dumb ass threads,i see your very good at not making friends.
Minimum 12 posters despise you.
Funny i was just talking about wishes in another thread,i just realized how fast my own wishes can change, but like they say all wishes can't come true,so i'll have to go without seeing someone or myself whack you over the head with a fvckin 2by4.
You humiliated yourself at EOG,now your humiliating yourself here.
Once again thanx for your kind comment about my rock, always a good ice breaker with posters you never interacted with before.
Final thought on TODAYS SCUMBAG,i will not enter another retarded thread you start.....this will be the 1st and last.......yes i have learned my lesson.........
you are a NO GOOD MOTHERF.CKER DOUCHBAG WHO CAN GO FVCK YOURSELF,YOU LOWLIFE DEGENERATE PICECE OF S.H.I.T.

I only get to see it during the Olympics - and I'm on board with Mudcat - it's an incredibly exciting sport. It's extremely tense and the smallest things are everything.
I'd say out of all the Olympic sports, nothing compares to Curling for drama, excitement, tension and just good spirited competition. The US Men's team was a lot of fun to watch last go around - they battled hard against some very very experienced and more talented teams.
There's just something about the pace of the game - it's not too slow, it's not too fast - it's just right.

That right there (above) was meant for AnotherLoan (AL), not you. If you took it as being towards you, you are mistaken. Talk about people having thin skin, geez. I posted the thread about curling knowing there are some here who have insight into the sport and would appreciate you answering the questions I asked.

I got to be fair to this Douchbag, after reading many of his posts, i'd say he's running a rate of 7per 10 posters who seem to honestly have complete disdain for him.
This guy is not your regular Douchbag........this fvck is super Douchbag.

Well sir, we would really be going back to Curling 101 for this. You do not seem to even know what the game looks like. There is no triangle. I assume you are thinking of shuffleboard. Scoring in curling takes place in the rings, the outermost of which is 12 feet in diameter.
I'm not going to get into too much detail here. No offense but we're really starting from scatch and that is a lot of typing. If I can try to summarize the scoring: all the rocks of the same color that are closer to the middle of the rings than the closest opponents rock (they must be at least biting the 12 foot ring to score), score for the team that threw them.
Having last rock is a very big advantage indeed. Teams would generally rather blank an end and retain last rock than score a single point and give up the hammer.
Jumping around, I'm sure they have smaller ice sheets for kids. Also the sheet for world competitions is a bit wider than the one we use for Canadian competitions. I don't know the exact numbers off the top of my head.
Different rules are also employed as players become more proficient. The best players must us a "free guard zone" rule - and there is variance in that between Canada and the International game. Again, too much typing to get into right now.
A rock weighs 20 kg. (44 pounds).
Funny that I've gotten this far without mentioning betting. That goes to show how much I love curling. I am completely jaded about almost all other sports and they are just about betting - but I really do love curling for the game.
There is wagering available at times though. Greek has it during the big tourneys. I think 5 Dimes too.
But I have never bet it.

Thank you for a beginner's guide to this sport. Long way from even thinking about wagering upon it but nice know G has it if/when wanted.

Just watch out for those diabolical Chinese curlers. They are coming from out of nowhere. There may be one sneaking up on you right now.
