President Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) today, allowing indefinite detention to be codified into law. As you know, the White House had threatened to veto an earlier version of the NDAA but reversed course shortly before Congress voted on the final bill.

LMAO, this is based of off protesters getting arrested. How stupid is that ? lived in D.C. for many years, there were protest every week and most of the time it was fine. People have the right to a peaceful assembly, but their are rules that must bet followed. That is how order works. Get over yourself Emily. Another brain dead zombie oblivious to the laws that have been changed that strip away our basic freedoms. One of this guys that thinks the USA does nothing wrong and anyone that posts anything negative he goes off the deep end with insults.

Have you seen the video that was filmed right before those kids got maced ?

The cops came up and asked them to clear the road. They told them they can protest in the grass, but cant block the road. That seems pretty fair to me ... what would you have liked the cops to do ? My freedom to what ? Get held indefinitely ? Something that must be approved by the president ? I should feel unfree because if i am suspected of terrorist activity to the point where the president steps in and says "Hold that guy" .. i could be held indefinitely ?

You are making it sound like cops can just walk up to a group of people and arrest one for no reason and throw away the key. There is a big difference.

i dont think the U.S. is perfect, i do not think any country is.

I agree that a lot of liberties are missing in the u.s. but most of the top 46 have have laws against "offensive" speech that should bump them WAY down.

The rankings you list have little/nothing to do with these things. They refer to press freedoms.

Very odd, and interesting, comparing the data from Emily's and Mathy's linkage. Take Australia for example: according to Emily's site the government there is trying to pass an internet watchdog akin to the great firewall of China (amongst other things), yet Mathy's linkage has them as the third "most free" country in the world.

I have no complaints living in the US. I'm not being harassed by the police. I get medical care when I need it. I have a good job with steady income. Can do anything I want, when I want, which does't include sitting on my couch playing online poker

I'd choose living here over every country ahead of us on this particular chart. I've been to a lot of those countries and they're very nice and I could be happy there but I like living here. I don't need a study to make my mind up for me.

So keep on posting how bad it is here and I'll keep on living my life and being happy. To eacht their own I guess
