What is the secret to the Raven's defense?
it doesn't matter who is running the defense. Goes all the way back to when Marvin Lewis was running the defense. They are a top defense every single year. It shows how valuable guys like Ray Lewis and Ed Reed are. Pagano is now gone and they'll just plug some random assistant into that spot and they'll still be a top 5 D.

Haloti Ngata probably their best def. player right now.

Dropping game winning superbowl advancing TDs in the endzone and missing 35 yd kicks produces an illusion of a superior defense.

Pressure up front from Suggs nata, sure tackling linebackers, good cover corners, and a playmaking safety will make any defensive coordinator look good.

Lewis and Reed don't write the playbook.

They have gotten a lot of defensive coordinators their jobs but I am hoping they get someone as crazy as Pagano was.

The right group of guys will make anybody look good, I just wouldn't want to be the DC when those guys leave, you'd look like shit unless they get good guys to replace them.

As others have said, Reed and Lewis (two first ballot HOF'ers) are a huge part of their incredible consistency. You also have to add great drafting by way of Ozzie Newsome. It's really incredible to me though that Lewis is still playing at such a high level. I think the guy may be a cyborg.

+1 commands a double team on every play and lets ray lewis use his instincts

Well, if I remember correctly, the Raven kept saying "Nevermore", and the old guy went insane.

Ray Lewis apparently isn't that important to the team anymore. When he was ruled out with an injury and most of the week to go earlier in the season, the spread didn't even move.
