How Many Black Coaches in Div 1-A Football?

Talking a week ago with two football fan friends, and we collectively could come up with only four current ones: Sy Croom, Miss St ---- Tyrone Whittingham, Washington --- Turner Gill, Buffalo --- Randy Shannon, Miami.

There must be a few more. Anyone know?

Talking only head coaches, of course.

A lot more in the 32 team NFL than in the 119 team ncaa.

'Course, the NFL is a lot more PC than the colleges. Altho NCAA did purge all Indian references from college team nicknames, except for Seminoles, which the tribe there says is ok for Fla St to use.

And the NFL's Washington franchise still have Redskins. Super polit incorrect.

In the US blacks are about 14% of the general population.

Going strictly by percentages, there "should be" around 16-17 black head coaches in college foots.

Only one, tho, to achieve any success was NFL's Tony Dungy, who's about 80% white

3 %, so one coach (or whatever they're called) is not that unusual.

Always more players than coaches who are black. Does the NBA need affirmative action?

Saw elsewhere on Net, there are 5 Div 1-A coaches.

Croom, Miss st
Willingham, Wash
Prince, K St
Shannon, Miami Fl
Gill, Buffalo

Willingham on the hot seat, needs a bowl or likely gone.

Shannon may get another year with the Canes. But maybe not, alumni angry

Croom and Prince safe.

Gill is the potential hot property. If Buf gets a bowl this year some of the BCS schools will be bidding for his services.

A good black coach satisfies both crazy and monied boosters, as well as the PC community

all i know being an upstate NY guy i want Turner Gil to be the next Syracuse University football coach!!! Think he is one of the few coaches who have the potential to bring SU football back from the dead. Note Syracuse AD Daryl Gross is African American, hopefully that will have some influence.
