    Whats the trend with defending superbowl champions?
    Weren't they 0 and something in week one against the spread

    Going through the archives, the defending superbowl champions are 42-0 on the moneyline in their previous game. That's a strong statistic.

        10 years ago, it was solid to play the dog on the spread every time in the first 2 weeks (versus former Super Bowl champs). The market has gotten much smarter though, and I don't think there's any value left in this.

          In fact, defending Champs are on an 8-0 SU run in Week 1 now, going 6-1-1 ATS. That ATS loss was in 2000, so last seven defending champs are 6-0-1 ATS.
