If you know some guy raped a kid(s), and then see said guy walking around years later, not only with other kids, but involved in a charity that revolves around kids, and you don't say something to the authorities .. then you are ALMOST as big a piece of sh*t as the rapist.

So you're telling me that if you know a guy for decades as a friend, and some kid that you don't know nearly as well tells you something, you're automatically going to believe the kid? You're lying buddy... you'd give your friend the benefit of the doubt and report to the higher-ups and hope that it was a lie. Joe has done far more good in this world than you. I don't see you donating half of your salary to a university or to charity. Let me know when you start doing that.

For one, what does the "kid" have to gain over this?

And second, it was an adult who reported this, not a kid. If you are asking me to error on the side of caution when it comes to kids, then yup "got me"!

error on the side of caution? You're telling me an old man should be the one who has the responsibility to go down to the police station as he just so happens to run a program? He told school officials who he trusted to handle the matter and they let him down along with everyone else. That is why THEY will be going to jail.

If you can't understand that, then I don't know how to help you. And I'm not very old myself, but I can guarantee you that to an 80 year old man, someone in their 20's is a kid.

There is no point in debating, because your ideologies differ from mine. I for one would have went to the authorities after I knew (which I'm sure Joe did) that my employer was trying to cover something up. Even though I would have done this because it was the right, logical, and moral thing to do, Joe (could of done it for these reasons as well) could have looked at it as a "win-win" situation: Report the crime, take the credit for reporting such a hideous thing and sticking his neck out, and come out looking like a moral, just man.

Joe didn't do that. Instead, he did the MINIMAL he could do .... and as the face of Penn State, that is disgusting and pathetic.
