Carlos Pena signs 1 year, $7.25 Million contract with the Rays
Carlos Pena: .216 BA in last 3 seasons

His highest batting average of the past three seasons is .227

    Is he worth 7.25 Million?

Right back to Tampa. Yeah, he's worth it. Gotta understand 1 year deals are very different than long-term. One year deals are rarely bad for the team. It's the long-term contracts that end up as an albatross that kill teams. Another advantage of these deals especially for a guy with a good ceiling is if he gets off to a good start but the team falters they can trade him and get a nice return for a small investment.

If you look at his season minus April. He had a very good year OPS wise. who cares about his BA.? even with April he was right in the middle of the pack of first basemen with a .819 OPS. Ryan Howard had a .835 how much does he make next year?

Clearly they didn't bring him in because of his Batting Average...

Why would he DH? His best trait is his defense at 1B. Pretty sure they signed him to man first base.

Can't imagine why he would DH when he is just about gold glove caliber at 1B.

his OBP last year was .357 and for an 11 year career he is a .352. He might not hit a lot of singles, but you already know that when signing him.
