There are far too many variables in play here. Let's say that hit was ruled an eror, CC would have probably blown the no hitter due to nerves or any other factor. The ruling should stand. If it doesn't, that will be the cheapest no hitter ever.
MLB better not change that hit call

#2I agree that changing the call would make the no-no cheap because hitter's mind set and CC and the rest of the clubs nerves would have been nervous, but what should have happened was that official scorer change his mind about the so called error into a hit during the 7th or 8th innning when he had a chance to.Comment -

#3no thats crap. He threw the ****ing no hitter then made an error. The play was an error...anyone of out there could have fielded that play better than CC did... and easily made the throw out to 1st...
While I don't like a no-hitter being given due to a ruling after the game. I do think the play was a legit error.Comment -

#4Yep, it was an error no doubt about that. Gotta make the right call!Comment -

#5Disagree. It was not a routine play, especially for the portly Mr. Sabathia. The rules say that a player will not be charged with an error unless the play could have been handled with ordinary effort. If he would have made the play, it would probably have been a "web gem" on Baseball Tonight.
Nice one-hitter CC! Keep up the good work.Comment -

#6the scorer would have to agree to change it. MLB can't do it unilaterally.[quote=jjgold;5683305]I win again like usual

#7I actually know two of the offical scorers for the Pirates personally. (There are four, and they each rotate 20 games for the season). Neither of my friends were the official scorer in this game, but one said they absolutely agree with the decision to score it a hit, and the other says it would be a very tough call, but he would also have scored it a hit.Comment -

#8web gem? my ass not even close to a web gem, that was like a sac bunt that pitchers field all the time and make the play, if Ichiro was out there running then u can make a caseComment -

#13It was the most idiotic, homer call I've ever seen. When CC touched the ball, the runner was only half way to first. Had he used his glove instead of trying to bare hand it, he would have thrown him out by 10 feet. Pittsburgh may be the only city in the baseball where something that pathetic is considered a hit.
That being said, they shouldn't change it now.Comment -

#14Senator stole my thunder. He pretty much said word for word what I was going to say. Being a big CC fan, I watched the game yesterday on the baseball package. That was a terrible call.
It should have been an error. That being said, if it was ruled an error, the game may have played out differently. The Pirates may have tried some bunts or went up to the plate with a different mindset. Watching that game, the way CC was pitching and how he was focused, I believe he was pitching as if he had a no hitter. I don't think the pressure on CC arguement holds water. However, it may have changed the mindset for the Pirates hitters. I'd have LOVED to have seen that No Hitter, but I don't think they should change it now even though it is the right call to rule it an error.

#15One more note....II have the Brewers/Mets game on now. FSN Wisconsin. They said MLB CAN NOT change the ruling. All they can do is persuade the official scorer to change his mind. I'll bet dollars to donuts he will never change his mind so it looks like it will stay a one hitter forever...I also found this amusing, they said if it is changed then the next day they will let CC come out and throw one pitch and then run out to the mound and celebrate and pour gatorade or whatever.Comment
